I'll be dancing Halloween night & wanna wear something different & fun & Halloween-y but still bellydance. I may have 2 gigs back to back & the second one is not "traditional" in any sense of the word--for that second one I'd be dancing with a live band, but not a middle eastern band--for a college crowd (hee hee) so heavy fusion & am thinking about wings for a few minutes then tossing them & doing some pop & lock (small stage space) and will probably just be one or two songs.
Ideas? What have ya'll done? I have a mermaid costume from last year I thought about doing one set in. Otherwise...?

Re: Fun Halloween gig ideas?
I went to a Halloween party in a black costume I had and paired it with an coppery orange skirt. It felt Halloweenish to me. Another idea would be an all white costume if you have one, but really play up the white with pale makeup, a white china silk veil, sorta ghostlike and haunting. Of course this probably would only work for certain music, I don't know if I could see a bellydancer dancing to Hakim in this, haha.

Re: Fun Halloween gig ideas?
Stereotypical Gothic (works for Cabaret or Tribal Fusion!)?
Fairy (ditto)?
Industrial Gothic?
Ummm...
Drag Queen?
Could always go with a cat costume...
Costume Goddess had a spider costume! That'd be great for arms and pop locks! And a cool imp costume...Dina's Bellydance Costume Galleries

Re: Fun Halloween gig ideas?
Just take any concept that's normally a "halloween" idea & make it bellydance! I remember the mermaid-that's cute.
Make a bellydance cat-I know you love animal print, just add ears & a tail, maybe some marabou to the tops of the bra cups & marabou wrist cuffs for paws.
I saw a great belly dance version of a wonderwoman costume!
If you have something snakey, do medusa...The possibilities are endless!

Re: Fun Halloween gig ideas?
..g.: Maybe I need you to come over & paw through my closet!!
I did think about the cat idea...but hadn't thought about using marabou. I ditched all my animal print, though, except a cute pair of pants, but I supposed I could do sword with the pants.
Soooo......wanna come over?? ..g.:..g.: Send me a note & maybe we can have a beer & a visit & brainstorm some creative stuff.
Oh, I'm dancing Fri. night if you wanna stop in and say howdy & introduce yourself

Re: Fun Halloween gig ideas?
Sonja, I think you could make a great cat!
You just have something like cat about you(that's a compliment), some of us don't have that, like me, I couldn't be a cat, I would have to be witch.
Go for Cat, and you have to post a picture!

Fishnet gauntlets have a vampire look to them. And of course, "I Put a Spell on You" by Natacha Atlas is a great song to use.

Re: Fun Halloween gig ideas?
So I've had this thing I've wanted to do for Halloween for a few years now but never gotten around to so I might as well share it in case it helps you :)
I started learning the choreography to Michael Jackson's Thriller (Thrill the world.com). I wanted to learn it the 'correct' way first, then alter some of the movements to be more belly dance. I was going to have all my dancers wear their belt and bra sets with top skirts that were made from cheese cloth and have cobwebs stretched over the beadwork along with appropriate makeup and hair. The first part of the song has all these footsteps and creaking doors. I wanted my friend to dress up like Indiana Jones. We were all going to be lying on the ground in a Pharaoh's tomb-like setting while he stole stuff. Then come to life and move into the dance while he 'ran away'. Sadly, I haven't finished learning the Thriller choreo and I fear I may never actually get this done... Wish I were better at choreography- both memorization and creation. If you do this, film it and send me a copy? Good luck!

People tell me I am!
But I don't know if it's cleverness or madness, or maybe a combination of the two

Re: Fun Halloween gig ideas?
Hey there, Miss Sonja!
I've recently been on a "let's make pop culture belly dance costumes!" kick, and my latest one was Wonder Woman:

Of course, I'll be needing to accessorize with some silver cuffs, a headband, and a magic lasso, but you get the idea! There is also a belly dancer out of Florida named Amira who does a belly dance performance as Slave Princess Leia to Star Wars-themed music:

Just wanted to get those creative juices flowing! Other options are dressing in a red costume with devil horns, a tail, and a cane, and doing raks el assaya to "The Devil Went Down to Georgia"....I'll let you know if I think of more! In the mean time, best of luck, and keep us updated on your ideas!Last edited by PassionWarfare; 08-21-2009 at 12:01 AM.

Re: Fun Halloween gig ideas?
OMG, Carrara, it's so weird that you mention Jem and the Holograms, because my belly dancer friend Danielle has been scrambling to get her Jem and the Holograms-related costume ready for Dragon Con in a couple of weeks! (They've got a group of gals all dressing as different members of the band.) Some friend I am for letting her struggle through it on her own! Maybe I can help her do her super-big 80's hair.....blow dryer and Aquanet, anyone?

There was a gal who used to dance in Klingon costume at conventions, and it was awesome - she could get away with the coolest music choices!

If you have a partner, you could do a sword number dressed up as Jeanie and her evil sister....

Re: Fun Halloween gig ideas?
Jeanie's sister's name was....Jeanie. Because...."Well yes - we are all 'Jeanie' [Genie], Master"
Yeah..I saw the show a few times when I was a kid. I remember 'bad' Jeanie because she had dark hair like me so I related to the dark hair character more than the blonde Barbara Eden character.Last edited by TexasRuya; 08-31-2009 at 12:41 AM.
