    Weight Belts

Has anyone tried the hip weight belts advertised on the Gilded Serpent website, and - I think made or endorsed by Delilah?? The premise sounds reasonable, the covers are actually quite cute, but I just don't know if I want to shell out $100 cdn for something if it doesn't give results. Any thoughts? Has anyone tried them?? ..c::

Never tried it, but you can get a SCUBA weight belt at any SCUBA shop that would give you the same results at a fraction of the price.

How much does yours weigh? I was going to check sports authority and see if they had something I could use and cover myself.

Do you find a significant difference in your strength/muscle tone?

This is a perfect idea! I've looked at Delilah's weight belts and just couldn't do it but my husband scuba dives... all I have to do is go get his from downstairs. YEAH! ..l;,

    Re: Weight Belts

I bought one and didn't use it much, actually I stopped using it completely. I felt like it really put some added strain on my knees, and I've become convinced that they could be dangerous if your posture is just a little off.

There was a recent post on tribe about this:

I've had very good results with stringing wrist/ankle cuff weights together to wear around the waist. Makes your unweighted movements so much more precise and smooth!

I have bad knees (one got torn in a ski accident, the other crushed by a car) and I have back problems on top of that, but I don't find the weights to make any difference, good or bad, on my ailments. I am a stickler for posture, don't know if that had an impact or not on my experience. as I'm sure everyone is real careful about that too.. It sure made my dancing better (teacher noticed!!! yay!)

    Re: Weight Belts

    Mine weighs...10 pounds I think.
I find a significant difference in how much I sweat during class, and in my abdominal muscle tone.
I don't wear it with the full 10 pounds in it, I started with 5 about a year ago and now I use 7.
You do have to be absolutely aware of your posture, and I wouldn't recommend it for anyone with lower back or knee issues, or new beginners. If you are experienced enough to be consistent with your posture, and have healthy knees and back, and don't put on more weight than you can handle, you should be fine, but I'm not a doctor. This is just my experience. (and trust me, 5 pounds starts to feel pretty heavy fast.)

The biggest difference for me is that my "dumb hip" catches up to my "smart hip" more quickly if I use the weight belt. And once you take the belt off, everything feels easier.

I eventually just gave in and bought one of Delilahs because I couldn't find one anywhere else.

Good advice! Think I am going to try the scuba belt idea. I don't just have a 'dumb hip' I have an incredibly stupid hip.

I recently bought a regular weight belt at Winners - I haven't been practicing much this summer but since I'll be on vacation soon I think I'll give it a shot.
