Thread: Bella-style Bra Cups

I make most of my own professional costumes and here's the next technique I want to start playing with: How do the Turkish designers get that flexible wire into the edge of their bra cups? What kind of wire would they use and were can I get some? Is regular thread sufficient? Do they make a casing out of something special?

Has anyone taken apart a Bella bra to find out (how brave!) or successfully make one themselves?

Hi Hala, I almost always include a wire in the bras I make for myself. I simply whip stich it to the upper edge of the cup on the inside with heavy thread. I do this before I cover the bra with fabric. I use 22 guage wire that I purchased at my local craft store (Joann Fabrics).

I do the same thing Shahla does. Works great! I also like to take a little hot glue and glue down the ends of the wire. Not sure if it helps hold the wire down or just eases my fear that the wire might poke me!

Thanks girls! I will stop at the craft store next time I drive into the city. I want to add wire to the top of belts too. I'll let you know how it turns out!

I often wire my belts too. You can use the same wire and technique.
