    Anyone try "Slim in 6?"

It's one of those infomercial exercise programs, so of course, I'm not expecting it to be all that it claims to be. But it looks (to me) like it would be enjoyable and something that I could do when the kids are asleep (a must for me). And, no buying equipment. Price is reasonable, as far as these things go- according to their website, it's about $60 with free express shipping.

Quick overview for those who've never heard of this... It's from Beach Body (same people as P90X), it's a 6 week program of dvd workouts- the first 2 weeks, you do a 25 minute workout, the next 2 weeks, it's 45 minutes, and the last 2 weeks, it's 60 minutes. All based on the same movements and using a resistance band. The expectation is that you do the dvd's 6 days per week, and then they also give you 2 shorter workouts for your days off- an ab-centered one and one for stretching and gaining flexibility. They guarantee losing 6 pounds and 6 inches in the first week, which I think is ridiculous- there's no way to lose that much fat in a week, so I'm assuming that some of this is water or possibly even muscle. But the workouts seem like they wouldn't be too bad, and even enjoyable.

Now, I am more active than the average bear (as most belly dancers are): I teach 4 classes per week, I perform when I can, I am a stay-at-home mom to 2 boys (5 1/2 and 1 1/2), and I practice or exercise (either the exercise bike or Yoga Booty Ballet- don't laugh, I like it) nearly every day. I used to be about 30 pounds heavier than I am- for the last year, I've been maintaining my weight and have been pretty happy about it. Over the last couple of weeks, I've gained some weight, and nothing I do seems to make any difference- ramping up the exercise, eating less, trying to cut out chemicals in what I eat, cutting out caffeine (can't do completely- I wouldn't be able to function). No matter what I do, I can't take off even 1 pound of this weight than inexplicably came to me- I was actually more active the week that I gained the weight. So I feel like I need to add something completely different to my workouts- and this seems like it may be something that I'll actually do (if I don't like it, I won't do it, no matter what).

Anyone with any experience with this program? Good or bad? Thanks!

Can't say anything about this program. But wanted to share some thoughts....in order to lose 1 pound of fat you need to burn 3,500 calories through diet and exercise . You also need to eat more often (healthy of course) and your exercise routine needs to change every now and again, sort of like tricking your body.

    Good luck.

some simple tricks that helped me shed a respectable number of "holiday pounds":

    - 3 meals a day. no more, no less.
    - no mixing proteins. if you're gonna eat eggs, you can't have ham aswell.
    - rye bread instead of toast/rolls
-WATER WATER WATER. 2 litres a day.
    - no "light" products. this includes skimmed milk and lowfat/ fat free yoghurts and cheeses.
    - veggies. yes, even for breakfast.
    - eat only one type of fruit after every meal. if you sqeeze lemon over your steak you can't have a banana...
-speaking of bananas, swap those with more lowcal fruits like apples/pears/oranges
-an apple a day keeps the doctor away
    -no food after 9pm
-your meals should last anywhere between 15 mins - 1 hour
    - when you begin your meal, start with a bite of protein. it tricks your metabolism.
    - there should be a 5 hour interval between meals (minimum)

that's all i can think of right now...oh yeah and swap coffee with black tea.
it's quite a list but it's easier to do than you think
sorry, i have never heard of that program

Sorry but some of that makes no sense at all.
If you squeeze lemon on your steak you can't have a piece of fruit afterwards.

Your body recognises calories. If you eat more cals than your body needs to use it will store it as fat, doesn't matter if that's 1000 extra calories from lard or from apples.

There are healthier choices that can help weightloss but being faddy isn't one of them.

Speaking of tricking your metabolism, latest science I heard was to eat a little and often for fat burning. If you go for long periods without food you're more likely to overeat at your next meal & make poor food choices.

But y'know not every programme works for everyone & it depends on your relationship to food, etc.

    Hi Amara,

Are you able to get a workout in before breakfast? Doesn't have to be hardcore. Training whilst your glycogen stores are low helps some people.

I believe there is a recent thread about BHuzzers who loved the program.

Re: Anyone try "Slim in 6?"

I have and I liked it a lot. It has too many squats in it for my knees though.

I have used it when I watched my diet and when I haven't and I got very lean when I watched my diet and just got firmer and stronger when I didn't (duh).

If I remember right, I liked the lady who did them and her students. I really like the timer that runs down to show you how much time you have left.

The beginner level starts easy and short, then the medium level is harder and longer. I didn't ever do the hardest level very often because it is about an hour long, I think, and fairly difficult. But I didn't need to, I got great results from the easier levels.

    I recommend it.

As for weight plateaus, eating cleaner helps me. I get lazy and fall back off the wagon, though. It is easier in the summer with the farmer's markets.

    good luck

Re: Anyone try "Slim in 6?"

Sorry, some if this makes no sense for me either:

    - 3 meals a day. no more, no less.
You actually need to eat 4-6 meals / days , the smaller meals/more often, the better.

    - no mixing proteins. if you're gonna eat eggs, you can't have ham aswell.
Yoour body does not caare how many different types of protein you eat (are ham and eggs different proteins anyways?) It only cares about how many calories are going in and going out. Proteins are proteins.

    - eat only one type of fruit after every meal. if you sqeeze lemon over your steak you can't have a banana...
I'm sorry, but you can have as much lemon as you want and then have a banana. One type of fruit only? whatever...

    -no food after 9pm
Yes that's true, but actually it's better not to have a heavy / big meal after 6-7 pm. (it's best to have dinner around 6 pm and a light snack later)

    - when you begin your meal, start with a bite of protein. it tricks your metabolism.
having a bite of protein will not trick anything. Maybe having a bite of protein (like a hardboiled eggs, a slice of cheese 1 hour before dinner will make you less hungry, and you will eat less)

    - there should be a 5 hour interval between meals (minimum)
ABSOLUTELY NOT TRUE!! Your metabolism will shut down by then and go on hibernation mode. The worst thing you do to your body.

Please do not listen to infomercials and "quick'fixes" - this is what this sounds like.
