Thread: One sleeved dress, advice

I am making my first dress and I want to make it with only one sleeve, and off one shoulder. My concern is keeping the other side up. I have seen costumes with clear straps for this but I have no idea what kind of material it is. Are they just clear bra straps? I would hate to have the little adjuster thing visable in the back. Help?

Sew Sassy (sewsassy.com) sells 1/4" and 3/8" clear elastic by the package. WRT clear bra straps, you can always take the end apart or snip it off to open up the strap and get rid of the slider. The only problem with this method would be if the strap was just barely long enough when you started. If the slider isn't maxed out, you should have plenty of length when the strap is taken apart.

You can get clear straps and I'm sure you can get them with out the adjusting things, you can also get nude elastic, but I always liked the thought of doing a jewelry strap- why try to pretend it isn't there when you can make it pretty? Check out some of these sights:

That is actually what I am going to try to do but I just feel like I need a little more that then thin strap. I want to do three that come together at the shoulder (so kind of splayed out on the top of the dress) and I just figured that instead of putting the strain on the beading, I would let it fall to an "invisible" strap.

This might be overkill, but you can buy that clear strapping by the roll:

if you are concerned about length. Maybe you can sell the unused remainder to other dancers making costumes?
