    Minor costume malfunction

I had a dress rehearsal the other evening, and everything went fine and my instructor said nothing, so I'm assuming she's satisfied.

I have two things going on. My necklace doesn't have enough room to lie down on my chest and it flips over and crap without me noticing it. I think I'll go without or substitute with something that will lie down.

The main concern is my skirt length. (25 yd tiered) When I wear this skirt in non-rehearsal classes, I am comfortable with its length, but in my hip belt, it rides at least an inch lower, and I have to roll it down twice or three times, and I still have issues with the front being too long.

In rehearsal, I was preoccupied with the length and the danger of stepping on it, possibly tearing it and possibly going down. Have any of you needed to roll a skirt down that much? It wants to unroll, even with the hip belt atop it. Do you fasten it with safety pins or what?

I don't have time to remake the waist band before our next performance, and I'm not sure I want to do that, either, as it's a dual elastic waist-with-a-drawstring, and pretty comfy in non-performance wear. I just have the length issue in front.

I have already taken in up an inch in front underneath the waistband. Maybe I should re-do that.

But what to do in the short term? Your thoughts are appreciated.

I would roll it to where it needs to be and then basting stitch or pin it within an inch of its life.

Like safety pin the crap out of it? I was thinking that, too.

Safety pins are good, but baby diaper pins are better! :)

I have looked all over for baby diaper pins, but I can't find any! Can you help? I've tried Target, Walgreen's, dollar stores, etc...and no luck. Do I need to go into a baby specialty store or something?

they hold better and are designed to not pop open easily, also larger

I've been wondering for a few years why I have such a large collection of safety pins (but only 4 diaper pins).

    Cool! Hoarding sometimes pays off!

    Re: Minor costume malfunction

I'd go for the long term solution if I could - sew it in place or re-do the waistband. Someone gave me a pretty nice "basic black" tiered skirt recently that was too long ON ME! I've never had that complaint before - I'm usually wanting them longer! Rolling it lasted about 5 minutes, and as it needs new waist elastic anyway, I'll shorten it a bit while I'm at it.

Then I'm gonna turn it into the mother of all Gypsy skirts...

A little piece of toupe tape will help hold your jewelry in place.
