Thread: I think I'm sick..

I've caught some sort of bug from you all that's caused me to order a selection of sew-on swarovski AB crystals, harvest good fringe from a questionable bedleh & sew it on another better costume so it'll look even nicer, and completely take a top apart to 'fix' it - i now have two cups not joined together and am not the least bit worried or concerned by it. i'm also feeling the urge to order sugar petals bra cups & a belt form.

is this how it starts? any other symptoms of this illness i should be aware of?

obsessing over the Bhuz swap meet for odds and ends...obsessing on Bhuz.

I have caught the same disease and also have taken a bra apart...i'm not sure what to do next

You've been bitten by the belly dance costume-making bug, a variant of the belly dance bug! It causes obsession and sudden stops when sparkly things come into view. Also depletes the wallet and causes your living room to become covered in sparkly bits of fabric, trim and beads.

I am afraid this will become chronic...the only known cure is to place all your items up for sale on the swap meet forum and reduce everything until it all sells and then crush your computer.

tahira, then i need an intervention because i'm ashamed to say I caught sight of a discarded sparkly toy ring on a parking lot ground last week & my first thought was how could it be fixed to a top/worked into a costume. in my defense it was a nice toy ring and the 'jewel' center was large & apple green iridescent.

I'm completely moribund. I have tons of beaded fringe that I just stare at and don't do ANYTHING with except ooh and ahhh. It's just so purrrrrrty. I've sold some, but dang, it's like the leftover hanks are multiplying when I don't look at them.

The Stash phase of your "illness" should kick in shortly. The Stash phase is when you first get over the "Can Do" phase (as in "Sure, I can do that and I get to pick my fabric!!!) and the initial enthusiasm wears off to make way to a strange state of mind where all excuses are good to justify purchase of "Stash" material. Things like "Gotta get this before inflation pushes this out of my price range", "OMG this is going to be discontinued, better get more" will start to sound very reasonable.

Disease cannot be cured at this point but symptoms can be temporarily alleviated with the aid of a sketch pad, a credit card and extra storage. (You don't really need that vaccum cleaner do you? Toss yours away and bingo, there's room for at least two costumes, or enough fabric to make 4! What about that fridge? Do you really need it? Yes? How about the stove then? I mean why cook when your time could be better used to stash-busting costume creation or Stash accumulation ..l;, )

The only ray of hope I can offer is this: if you don't have enough in your stash to keep you busy beyond your country's average life expectancy, then you're still sane.

Oh, this is a slippery slope... the prognosis is terminal. Before you know it, the bling will encroach and migrate to all those around you including your loved ones. The infectious nature of sequins is not to be underestimated. They appear in all manner of nooks, crannies and bumcracks. They manifest in the poo of pets and even infiltrate inanimate objects, particularly the hoover. And beware the devastation that can be caused by errant sewing needles left in couch arms and cushions. This causes much screaming and incoherent obscenities from spouses and those of the male gender as they invariably end up in the aforementioned flesh in piercing and painful buboes that are indicative to the injured and infected, the sorry and inferior state of your intelligence and foresight. There is, so far as I am aware, no cure.

Thank goodness I'm not alone! It's bad enough that no-one will sit on "my" side of the couch - no matter how many people are in the room.

But I do always have a straight pin when I need one!
