Thread: Can u help me with cossie idea please?

Hi there, I would love to make a really authentic style dress that i can wear for beledi /cane and any folklorick dance really ,even a little ghawazee.In mind i have thoughts of a loose fitting style with hipsash or belt and long headscarf,anyone know where I;m coming from? I have to make my own as I;m not working at the moment, and do enjoy making my own anyway,maybe someone has some photos that could help with some ideas? appreciate any help thanks lovetodance.

Most of the companies that make patterns for home sewing have styles of caftans or tunics with different neckline variations and seaming/darting options. If you want some sort of bustline shaping, your best bet is probably a tunic pattern--just measure how much longer you would need to make the top to turn it into a longer dress and extend the pattern accordingly. If you are looking for a more traditional "T" shaped garment, try the costume section of the book where they have the Passion Play patterns. For something more along the lines of the men's contemporary style (with a band at the neck and a short placket down the chest), try the sections for men's shirts and unisex pajamas. Most of these patterns will be designed for wovens. You might have to do some tweaking to adapt to a stretch fabric if you are looking for that style.
