    Airbrush makeup & photo shoots

Help me out ladies... I have a pricey photo shoot next month & want to look my best (even though small flaws can be touched up). I got a coupon in the mail for a new salon that offers airbrush makeup. Has anyone tried this? What would you all recommend? I usually go tobtge Mac counter but sometimes they go overboard. Also...how best to do hair? I hate to wear fake hair, even though if I did I know it would stay looking nice. Help!!

Think of it this way- the photos need to reflect what a client would get if they booked you. If you wear fake hair to dance in, why shouldn't you wear it in the photos?

    Sonja,

All of the Columbia, MD April 2008 Raq the Camera participants had airbrush makeup. Bhuzzers include Mia Naja al Sephira, Latriamou, LeylaFahada, Ruta, and AmiraofAnnapolis,

You can ask them about their experiences/photos.

And I agree w/bearfarhana. Look as you would if you showed up to work for a client. However, photos can reflect a little more creativity and bumped up glamour for promotional effect.

Azhia thanks!! So I guess maybe I'll consider the hair... Sometimes I wear it and sometimes I don't, but it is definitely fuller & longer than my natural hair. Def. Stage hair. So airbrush makeup--how does it work?

This is a brand whose equipment and formulas I use.

[Note: I do NOT get commissions for talking about brands in my kit.]

That video might be a lot more impressive if they didn't use a model with perfect skin to begin with.

Talk to the salon and make sure they are familiar with doing make-up FOR a camera shoot, and this will be different than make-up for a dramatic show. When you go to the salon bring reference pictures of similar looks you'd like them to be inspired by and be specific. You are paying them.

the airbrush makeup was really cool. i'd never had it done before. i didnt feel like i was wearing any makeup at all. the pics that i had the airbrush makeup are the ones that i am wearing the red and gold costume. although when azhia does my foundation without the airbrushing i haven't noticed a huge weight difference. but it's been a while since i had the airbrushing done so i can't say for sure.
i also second ozma's advice. pick out pictures of the looks you want ahead of time so there is no confusion.

I just ran across the temptu "home version" on sephora. Does anybody have it? Is it easy to apply to yourself? Are the results significantly better than a high-end cream foundation? If so, how: staying power, finish, etc.

I've been using Face Atelier Ultra Pro, and I'm pretty happy with it, but I'm just fascinated by this airbrush stuff.

Re: Airbrush makeup & photo shoots

Sonja, if you are near a major city, there will be lots of make up artists to choose from. Choosing the right one is the first step, then clear communication (and pictures) is the next.
For my last shoot I first looked on facebook at all the recent shoots with lovely local dancers. There were two makeup artists work whom I loved and would have gone with, but one moved away and one was no longer doing makeup. That was bad luck though- I think that's a smart first step to finding one you like.
My next step was just to google, find other make up artists whose work I liked and start to email them. I lucked out, I think and got someone fantastic!
