Blondes: What color for a fake ponytail?
I am thinking about buying a nice long clip in ponytail but don't know how to choose a color. Like lots of blondes, I am much lighter on my top and ends and the underneath of my hair, near my scalp, is very dark blonde/light brunette. Do I match the ponytail to my lighter hair, or my base hair? I can't seem to find a blend of darker underneath light. Does anyone have a good resource where to purchase one?

Re: Blondes: What color for a fake ponytail?
i have the same issue. gah, lauren posted a great response but i can't find the thread now :-/
i'm a dirty blonde but it's nearly impossible to find matching hair pieces because i have different shades of blonde and i've never even dyed my hair. thank goodness for my mom, who is more of an artist and better at color perception than i am, found 2 hair pieces for me that work. if any of u blondes are similar to my hair color if u think so by my pics, the ones that say 'frost tips' work. i dont have any pics of me with my extensions on (which i use for volume), but i saw a video of me performing with them and it looked like my own hair.
i usually wear my hair down but i too want a nice long ponytail tho for maybe a sword piece or cane or whatnot. it would take hours for me to get my hair like that naturally and in the end it would just lose it's volume within an hour or so. it's just easier to clip it on and go.

Re: Blondes: What color for a fake ponytail?
If I were you I would go to your local hair supply store that is frequented by people of color. For some reason all my experiences in wig/piece buying have been much more successful when a person who has "ethnic" hair is helping me along. I think this has something to do with the cultural obsessions in hair that differ between caucasians, hispanics and blacks.
(I'm not looking to be flamed for this statement I'm just expressing my own personal experiences.)
On top of which, hair sold in "ethnic" stores is 50% - 150% less expensive then salons who cater to women with caucasian hair.

Re: Blondes: What color for a fake ponytail?
I thought I responded to this thread? Where did my post go? Is there more than one on this topic?
Personally, I have found it *impossible* to find my shade of blonde in ethnic hair supply stores. As in, a 0% success rate. It's not a popular shade there.
I buy mine online and pay about $40 for a really nice one. E-bay sellers Hairmenow and Capistrano Bay Beauty have been great.
