When you don't love it
today i got the costume i ordered (http://www.bhuz.com/forum/fitness-be...s-costume.html)
it's not turquoise as it appears on camera, it's actually a teal/green-blue, which is great, the color is still good for me.
the costume is pretty. i like it. i just don't love it. my other cossies when i got them, i adored them right out of the box. no idea why i don't love this one. ..c:: trying to decide on returning it vs. putting it up on swap meet.
do you keep cossies you don't love?

What makes you unhappy with it?

Re: When you don't love it
well, if you don't love it and you can still return it or exchange it you should before the time period runs out.
if you wanna fix it up: i envision tons of hot fix crystals as borders for the waist, arm bands, and all over the bra and skirt. it could be an inexpensive bump to the next level of bling.

Re: When you don't love it
I'm wondering if it's maybe the less-blingy look that is holding you back from adoration? It's got fewer crystals than many - the solid colored flower beads give it a very different sort of look. If that's definitely why you think you're not in love, it would be easy to bling up as Sabrina said.
But don't keep it if you really don't love it - there are too many other options out there to try!

Re: When you don't love it
it would need a little work. i like the beaded flowers, it's different. it looks good on me. minimal stuff 'wrong' with it out of the box. a single strand of dangly beads on the top was missing beads & had not broken in the box, so i don't have the missing beads. but i could move one from elsewhere to that spot to replace it. 4 lower quality crystals on the top..the kind with AB coating..and there are teeny scratches on the coating, not a huge deal and can be replaced. need a hook & eye over the skirt zipper so it doesn't unzip itself when i'm moving .w.: one of the sleeves is stretched out at the top, i guess that can be fixed..add elastic or tighten it up at the seam(?). the rhinestone strands on the top aren't very sparkly, either.
it's from bdstore so i've got 7 days to return as long as i leave the tags on. i'll take the weekend to think it over and try on again at some point. look at it again in the light and see if i feel the same way. maybe because i have limited funds right now i really didn't want something i'd have to spend more money on to fix up?

Re: When you don't love it
Honestly, as many things as you listed you don't like about it, I think you ought to return it. It's like you're subconsciously focusing on the faults. I know when I've gotten one in the mail I absolutely adored on sight, I was blinded to any faults. I don't think you are enamored enough of this to keep it.

Return it, the swap meet just isn't moving like it used to and it could be on there for a long time, and you may have to take less for it than you want to. If you don't love it, don't keep it.

Re: When you don't love it
Don't keep something you aren't "wowed" by... I have a blue pharaonics that Ive had for over a year now and worn ONCE because it's just not a "wow" costume for me even though others like it. I should have exchanged it when I had the chance as right now, the costume's sale price would be to great of a loss for the "work" I've gotten out of it. Return it and get something you love - "eh" just isn't worth it.

Re: When you don't love it
i agree with the others that say if you don't love it, return it.. cause lets keep in mind that these things are pretty expensive for us not to want to wear it all the time.

Yes, Like any other clothing item, if you don't love it, you will never wear it. I'm sorry you're disappointed. I hate being all excited for something, then, you open the package and BUZZ KILL. But you'll be better off.

Re: When you don't love it
I agree with the others; if you don't love it, return it while you can!
The only situation in which I would say "keep it" is if you need this style/color for a troupe costume, and you don't think you could find another costume in this style/color/size/price range before you'd need it. I have a silver bra/belt set that doesn't fit me like I'd like it to, and I never reach for it for solo work, but I hang onto it anyway because I need it for troupe stuff. So that's probably the only situation in which you should keep a costume that you don't love, I think.
Edit: I think I'd also keep a costume I wasn't 100% in love with if it fit me really well, it fills a niche in my costume wardrobe that isn't already filled by another costume, and, most importantly, I got it for an exceptionally low price. The higher the price, the more perfect it has to be! If you bought your costume new, though, it probably wasn't a stellar deal (the likes of which you'd find on the swap meet boards these days), so that's another argument for returning it!Last edited by Anjela; 09-12-2009 at 02:45 AM.

I agree, I don't keep anything I don't love. Return it for something that takes your breath away.

Re: When you don't love it
I also agree, return it. I've bought lots of costumes that I didn't really 'love', but was my size, so I thought I could make them work. They ended up in stored in hatboxes instead. If you don't love it, you're not going to feel your best in it.
Return it.

Re: When you don't love it
I agree with those saying return it. I don't even keep t shirts I'm not in love with anymore. The reason is that I always say, oh I'll fix it up, it'll grow on me, I'll do something hot with it later ... yeah if later means I've already bought every lovely costume there is, have totally mastered all aspects of the dance, and have nothing better to do.
Get you money back and put it towards something you love.

Re: When you don't love it
I think it's a lovely costume. But if you don't feel your best in it, you won't dance your best in it, and you won't reach for it. If it's not going to work for you, don't keep it. There are a million costumes languishing on the Swap Meet right now- especially if money is tight, you may be "stuck" with a costume that you didn't want to keep, or sell it at a loss on the Swap Meet. If you can still return it, do.

Re: When you don't love it
Totally return it! I bought one from thebellydancestore, didn't like it, waited too long and now I'm stuck swamp meet purgatory. Meanwhile I've lost $100 bucks on it, and I could have returned it and spent the $300 toward a pharonics at the desert dance festival this weekend. ..cr.:

Re: When you don't love it
Sounds to me like too much work for a new costume. If it was second hand, maybe, you would expect to have to fix it up a bit. But brand new? Send it back and get one you will walk tall in!

Re: When you don't love it
thanks all. i'm going to send it back. i love the color - the teal green is beautiful, the lycra skirt i was a'feared of ..l;, is fine and the beaded flowers & leaves are pretty. but for a new costume it is more work than i wanted or think i should have to do. so back it goes.
perusing to see if there's anything else i want & could exchange it for or if i'll just take a refund for now.
