Re: Best inexpensive black eyeshadow?
LOL! Thanks for adding me, Emma! Yes, I am a fan of NYX's line and Milani's as well (I'm wearing Milani liquid eyeliner today and it's great stuff). If you're looking for really pigmented shadows, NYX is a fabulous affordable line that can be found at many beauty supply stores or can be bought online at Cherry Culture.

Re: Best inexpensive black eyeshadow?
The colours look really great!!!
and you say they stay on well?? would have never guessed that from such a low cost product.
Anyone tried their professional brush set? I was told what kind of brush you use makes a hell of a difference in eye make up look and durability...

Re: Best inexpensive black eyeshadow?
Are you talking to me Dinavienna (you name reminds me of mine and vienna cookies, lol)? Too many posts after? Confusing...
If you are... they stay on me well. My eye lids are greasy so I was quite surprised. If I need them to really stay for photos or stage with those hot lights, I use primer. Never tried their brushes, I use the Art brushes or I pay too much for mine at Ulta, Sephora, or at a Salon. I rather pay more for brushes than the makeup, because sometimes the makeup might be more money and not as great as if you buy like someone said WetNWild or at the drug store. The great thing about drug stores too is if you don't like it and even if you use it you can return it. Can't do that at the big name makeup counters.Last edited by daveenadivine; 09-17-2009 at 02:38 PM.

Re: Best inexpensive black eyeshadow?
Hi Daveena :)
hmmm it s morning and you make me want to go out grab some cookies to go with my morning coffee ;)
Ya, sorry, I was asking about this biiig pallette of eyeshadows you posted. Unfortunately i don't have Sephora around here. I always figured the Bobby Brown brushes (horribly expensive) would not be necessary.. art brushes, that is the regular brushes you'd get at an arts material supplier? That's a cool idea! Thanks :)

Re: Best inexpensive black eyeshadow?
Art store supply brushes are best for synthetic brush uses: creams and liquids. I'm not so crazy about them as fluffs and blenders.
If you want decadence, go for Japonesque or Hakuhodo.

Wow, tons of great info posted already.
I love Besame cosmetics and have used their "Black Pearl" for years. (Yes, the same small pot!) Here's the link:
Besame Cosmetics - All Natural Lipsticks
I also love, love, love Lancome's black eyeliner pencil. Has also lasted me years and goes on super smooth.

Re: Best inexpensive black eyeshadow?
I actually like Alex Vogle's Black . It has a little shimmer and lasts even through your most drippy sweaty shows. But, not the cheapest option out there.

Re: Best inexpensive black eyeshadow?
Ladies, I'm horribly late to get away, but I wanted to let you know something regarding that ebay pallette!
I'd seen the exact same pallette recommended on youtube before. So I checked out these youtube ads and it said coastal scents.
Went to their website - very inexpensive!
Now I asked them whether the Hong Kong ebay seller is legit or not - they say they always produce their own pallettes and are aware customers get confused by ebay imitations, so they now print their trademark on every pallette. Now I do not know whether these pallettes from Hong Kong are good too - but the ones recommended on ebay are definitely coastal scents!!
And interestingly they are actually LESS expensive?! at least from superficial looking.
I am inclined to get the Coastal Scent colourful pallette and one for smokey eyes. They look both stunning, and they are shipping to Vienna frequently they said :)
So ready to go..

Re: Best inexpensive black eyeshadow?
Thinking of it - might anyone have tried both Coastal Scents and that Hong Kong ebay seller's 120 pallette?
Thinking hard which one to get :)

Re: Best inexpensive black eyeshadow?
Thanks for the hint Samira!
I've heard excellent things about NYX too and will get their green eyes and smokey eyes "For your eyes only" pallette these days. Their loose powder eyeshadows are supposed to be like MAC pigment. They have the most wicked green called "Jade", looks like absynthe! I love greens.

Watch the first minute or so! great comparison of blacks,
and that Mac "Black tied" shade is to die for.
Probably worth getting, but she gives an inexpensive alternative (Barry M - don't have that over here, sadly!)

Re: Best inexpensive black eyeshadow?
hi girls!
I've stocked up on makeup MASSIVELY these past months. never have been a makeup gal, but well now I love it.
Practicing in my living room still, not yet pulling off the daring looks in public. but getting there.
BLACK: the BARRY M dazzle dusts IMO are as good as mac pigments. their black is STUNNING. so is their chocolate.
they have great black+colour glitter dusts too. the dazzle dusts are fine pigments, the glitter dusts somewhat chunkier glitter. but still very nice to work with (it is not like loose glitter at all - much finer and more wearable; dazzle dusts are good for daytime looks, glitter dusts may be better for evening looks).
check these out:
Barry M - Dazzle Dust
the glitter dusts have some amazing black + colour versions in gold, purple, teal. the dazzle dust has amazing black + colour too, one petrol colour, one black/brown colour called dark chocolate.
Barry M - Fine Glitter Dust
see the glitter dust in denim and the dazzle dust in black here, f.e.:

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d5Lxdh2I828"]YouTube- Nicole Scherzinger inspired gold bronze & black makeup look[/ame]
isn't she amazing??
barry m apparently ships worldwide!
the bright colours are fabulous too. best over urban decay primer potion where it sticks well, mac paint pots or nyx colour base is great too.
easy to work with, really, as long as the colour is dabbed on with a rather big shadow brush. other options may work, too, if one does not have something like that, but in the long run getting good brushes by nyx, benefit, or mac is definitely worth it.
My favorite inexpensive black? by sleek. their palettes are GBP 5. yes! ebay sellers have them for non UK residents.
A friend who's a makeup artist told me she loved the sleek black more than any mac black. it's amazingly pigmented.Last edited by dinavienna; 02-16-2010 at 01:54 PM.
