Re: What are you working on? For Halloween?!
On several previous Halloweens I wore the BD Black Widow:

Here's me with a "Little Sister' I mentored in Elementary school. I left off the anatomically correct male spider/victim at the school...
I've used Nadia Gamal music with canuun and organ for a spooky dance. I've also won a prize for wearing this at a karaoke bar on Halloween to sing Whatever Lola Wants by Sarah Vaughn.
I was a Zombie for Seattle's traditional summer Zombie Walk in Fremont, it could work for Halloween:

I got carried away...even added carrion beetles and maggots! Might need to be less gross, more glam for Halloween. It says "Plants" because my candidate for Seattle City Council was also a Zombie, Plants is his name - but someone thought I was a "vegetarian zombie"!
I may wear the Egyptian Scorpion Goddess Selkhet; only wore it once before, for Delilah's contingent in the Solstice parade. The fab headpice featuring a golden scorpion with red eyes and silver stinger deserves to be on display!!

The naked lady behind me is Nut the Sky Goddess (see the stars? No?) With her striding behind me the whole parade, I'm afraid my ensemble got a bit less attention than it deserved, heh.
Here's the whole group of us Gods/Goddesses:

Re: What are you working on? For Halloween?!
I loved it...Delilah's idea to have an Egyptian theme in the parade, with hundreds of dancers in white, dozens of "stonemasons" assembling blocks to build a pyramid, and Gods & Goddesses.
This is the stonemason costume I made for my husband:

We went into into a bar after the parade to quench our thirst, and heard a confused tourist ask, "What's with all the Egyptians? I keep seeing Egyptians..."

I got the last of the faux fur in yesterday! Now I can begin covering the lion head mask with it :) Might have to take the vacuum to it first though, boy does it shed!

Re: What are you working on? For Halloween?!
These are some pretty interesting ideas and costumes.
I spent all weekend working on my husband's Elvis jumpsuit. I thought I would have been done by now because I made him one years ago and it only took one day. I tried a different pattern, and I don't like it. If anyone else wants to make and Elvis costume, don't use the McCall's pattern. The pieces go together well, but the directions are weird and there are better patterns out there. At least all I have left is hemming, decorating, and making the belt.

Re: What are you working on? For Halloween?!
My zombie costume is underway, but I needed something else for work and local parties. My husband and I like to dress as a couple, but didn't want anything too elaborate. And so... we are dressing up as Ceiling Cat and Basement Cat.

Re: What are you working on? For Halloween?!
I keep thinking I'll get photos taken of my progress but I never seem to think about it until I'm elbow deep in paper clay and unable to touch a camera! This weekend I sculpted the lower jaw for the lion mask, filled in part of the muzzle that was uneven, added paper clay for the curve of the eyes, sculpted the end of the nose and then launched a whole new sculpting project because I was having so much fun ..g.: I took the plaster cast of my face and molded a skeleton half-mask and then molded a spear head on a dowel rod. I want a shaman type costume for the corn maze this Friday! Don't worry, I can make it happen
While I was waiting for all that paper clay to dry (and it still hasn't) I got the lining cut out for my boyfriend's cloak. I'll try very hard to remember to take pictures tonight before I get too messy to handle electronics!

Re: What are you working on? For Halloween?!
I'm working on a fairy costume, green and yellow. Nothing too spectacular. But at least I can now say I've mastered the fine art of sewing chiffon! Yay!
You know what would be so awesome to dance to? "When you're good to Mama" from the Chicago movie soundtrack.

Re: What are you working on? For Halloween?!
I finally took a couple pictures of my Beast mask pieces and the paper clay experiment that turned out cool and creepy ..g.:
Paper clay shaman skull mask and spear:

Hinged lower jaw for Beast mask made from paper clay and sculpey (for canine teeth). Headgear will be mounted inside the fabric/fur covered paper mache head/mask.

I'm thinking I'll toss the "mane" into the dryer to knock loose shedding fur, then glue it down in places. Once that's done I'd like to add some shading to the face fur with fabric paints. The masquerade is this Saturday so I may not have time.

Re: What are you working on? For Halloween?!
I made a wolf costume out of neon orange fur (didn't find other), i am dancing to "little red riding hood", the song from the 50's. I am the wolf (female) and the husband from a troupie is little red riding hood.
the costume looks like wolf wants to be a belly dancer. should be fun.

Re: What are you working on? For Halloween?!
I don't like to spoil what I'm up to, but I just did my halloween themed performance last night at "Danse du Ventre" - the Belly Horror pre-show.
For me it was more about props then costumes. I did two dances, the first to this song:
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cTpUVAcvWfU"]YouTube - Fish Heads - Barnes and Barnes (1979)[/ame]
My costume was just very colorful items from my closet layered on to make me look like a very colorful everyday person walking down the street (but I went barefoot). I had a paper bag that I pretended to keep fish heads in (I was tempted to get real ones, but the ladies in the dressing room thanked me for not choosing that option), attached to the paper bag with fishing line I made a tiny little cardboard cut out alley cat, painted her black with big green eyes and one silver stocking and she was a tiny cat puppet that followed me and my fish heads in a bag. I imagined this was not an unlikely scenario, considering what would happen if I were walking all over town with real fish heads. I had considered dressing up as a giant fish head myself, but it says right in the song it self that fish heads can't dance.
I also did a second number - a tribute to Stonehenge:
[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jpaG-L0zTJ4]YouTube - Spinal Tap - Stonehenge[/ame]
(the entire song is available on itunes)
I made a tiny 18" stonehenge.
I wore a black druid robe to enter that I got from an etsy vendor ( Star Wars Robe Cloak Cape Jedi Sith Monk by mulliganstewboutique ) and covered the costume I was wearing underneath with a purple veil in the front, then I turned around in a dramatic portion of the music and dropped the robe and purple veil to reveal my bright yellow belly dance costume... (I just had to wear it.)
And then I just danced with wild abandon. The dramatic music came on and my tiny Stonehenge magically appeared on stage (okay, it got carried in mysteriously by Bella the witch, I would have lowered it from the ceiling if I could've...) to great effect. I enjoyed a little jig that was great fun....all very silly.
If anybody posts photos from the show I'll let you know.Last edited by shems; 10-23-2009 at 09:11 AM.

Re: What are you working on? For Halloween?!
I did wear my yellow, yellow costume for Stonehenge with my even more yellow veil and I was very, very tempted just to be yellow and dance to yellow themed songs. Here is the yellow costume you may have seen on another thread:

and here are yellow and sunshine themed songs that I was soooooo tempted by.
[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZMgP_R4gYnU]YouTube - Yellow[/ame]
[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GyCksBBWr2w]YouTube - INDIA ARIE -YELLOW *New*[/ame]
[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HCCjv2OiTxE]YouTube - Mellow Yellow by Donovan[/ame]
[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z8bnPUkd71w]YouTube - Raconteurs - yellow sun[/ame]
[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_yD3npzrHKs]YouTube - regina spektor - Sunshine (11:11)[/ame]
[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cqh54rSzheg]YouTube - Cream- Sunshine of Your Love[/ame]
[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5YefKgWdmFk]YouTube - Stevie Wonder - You Are The Sunshine Of My Life[/ame]
[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a7mtHt-rUxQ]YouTube - Walking On Sunshine[/ame]
[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EegRh8Z4H-o]YouTube - The Fifth Dimension "Aquarius /Let The Sunshine In" (1969)[/ame]
[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IMOy9SsUQ7U]YouTube - Mos Def- Sunshine[/ame]
I decided against yellow submarines and yellow taxis and that sort of stuff. :-) Right now this is an awesome play list of happy music that is brightening my morning. Time to throw a yellow themed party!Last edited by shems; 10-23-2009 at 09:00 AM.

This year my kids wanted to be the Yip yip aliens from Sesame Street
I just finished their costumes...it gets pretty cold here in Winnipeg in October so these will keep them warm when they are out Trick or Treating!

the skirt was a hit.....LOL....this was taken last night at the Halloween show.
I danced to 'Sweet Dreams' by Marilyn Manson
