I got hair like Joey Ramone
It aint straight, it aint curly, it is some kind of shoulder length single wave wierdness that feels like the tail of an Arabian horse I once owned. If I flip my hair about..it wont lay back down nice and smooth... I just end up looking like Roseann Roseanna Dana - cause it gets bigger and bigger. Anyone? How do you care for this? I tried curly girl. Not enough curl for that. I want smooth, silky, shiny, non seperating hair!!! Thats not too much to ask is it? ,m::

Re: I got hair like Joey Ramone
That's OK. My mom has a very bizarre theory that she and Conan O'Brien were separated at birth - they have the same flippy pouf in the front of their do's.
I'm more like Tawny Kitein of Whitesnake video fame, when I don't do a blowout. But I guess that's better than my mom's unfortunate Conan 'do!
Thanks for listening to my rant ,r:; *pulls up a chair to listen for advice*

Carrara, you don't get to complain about hair because yours is awesome. And Anala, having met you in person, I can safely say that I rather like your hair!

Rock-rock, rockaway beach...rock-rock, rockaway beach...
Get a ceramic hair dryer, like CHI. It will help the cuticle lay flatter than a traditional hair dryer, which just dries your hair from the inside, causing more damage (like microwaving a lobster in wax paper, RIP Julia Childs).
I have horsetail hair myself. This seriously solved my problem, and in NON-desert climates, I might add (climates w/ humidity!). You won't pry my CHI hair dryer from my cold, dead hands!

*sings* "anala is a punk rocker now!" ;)
if you color, you might want to use a silicone product or coconut oil after you wash to put the cuticle back down. then let hair dry in a braid down your back. the weight of the wet braid will pull the hair into smooth waves. you might also try mixing part silicone, part leave in conditioner as a styling product, then do the braid thing.

Re: I got hair like Joey Ramone
I discovered this technique by accident. I have coarse, thick, wavy hair that balloons to Bozo proportions after a restless night or a humid day. Unfortunately, the silicone & braid effect only lasts for about a day.
I worry about dryers because I color my hair and don't want to damage it any more than I already do . . .

Re: I got hair like Joey Ramone
I knew that would get a few lyrics out of ya'll!!!
Never heard of CHI...just looked for them on ebay and there is a bunch of them. Which is the best? They range in price from 39 to 120 bucks! The silicone thing causes a seperation of the hanks (stringy) and I end up using a nylon comb to get the stuff to look like one unit again. I feel like a bird preening its feathers 10 to 15 times a day. But I am not vain...nooooo. The braid thing makes me look like a crone! I have put my hair in hot rollers...and you should see the size of my do....5 or 6 huge curls that wont integrate unless I brush..and then the resulting fro is most amazing!
Right now it is just below my shoulders and I dispair of madness if I let it grow longer.

This is the one I have. I loved it so much I had to buy 2, one for myself, one for clients.

Re: I got hair like Joey Ramone
I have very thick coarse curly hair. The silk proteins in CHS products have smoothed and softened my curls. I have had both my mom and gramma using their products also - mom has wavy hair and gramma has pretty much stick straight - but the silk proteins have been great on all our hair.

Re: I got hair like Joey Ramone
the braid is not for public. if you wash and condition at night and sleep in the braid it should be sufficient. or let it dry at home. if you rub some diluted product/conditioner in your hands, then over the hair and re-braid for sleep it should keep it good for a few days.

Re: I got hair like Joey Ramone
SLK, nope...sorry...Joey as belly dancer. There is your visual for this morning.
Sabrina..I knew you meant drying in place. I think if the stuff was a bit longer, say to my bra strap that would work. I can barely get it into a braid at this length, so when I let it out, it looks flat at the crown and very wavy by my face. The perfect blend for croneitude if you have "dung between the toes" facial features.Last edited by anala; 09-15-2009 at 10:09 AM.

I hear ya - not enough curl, not enough wave, but it still goes out in a triangle when the humidity hits. And despite the lack of the above, I do get frizz in droves. It's a love-hate relationship because the humidity does make it look thicker though.
I love the silky black hair the Indians, the Native Americans, and the Far Eastern people have the best. It is ALWAYS shiny.

FOUND!!! At Sally's supply. A very powerful dryer/curler. Short plastic teeth and enough ompf to really dry thick hair while the stumpy plastic teeth polish and smooth the cuticle. Yeah!

Re: I got hair like Joey Ramone
I love Noodleheads products from Sallys. Put hair in three or four braids with pin curls for shorter hair around face. If I am going out somewhere I do one French braid. When dry, take down hair and use crimper close to the scalp and at the ends.
If I want hair smoother, pull it back into tight ponytail on top of my head and put the tail part into giant rollers.
But when it is humid, all bets are off. Part of my hair frizzes, part curls, part falls flat.Last edited by Souzan; 11-24-2009 at 10:55 AM.

Like a coyote died on my head! Hot sweaty - mats where it rubs against my shoulders and back, and the panic of potential slippage keeps me from being as frenetic as I wanna be... maybe that would be a good thing?
