DIY: Fringe
I don't mean the beaded variety either, or the glass. I mean the chainette, rayon fringe that you find on tribal fringe belts or pillows or curtain tassels..stuff like that. Where do you get it? Whats it really called? Have you worked with it?
I saw a cab costume with that sort of fringe versus the traditional bead/glass and I thought it looked pretty awesome.

Re: DIY: Fringe
It is called chainette fringe. You can find it at fabric stores or craft stores like Beverly's. It's cheap compared to the beaded stuff, too!

You can get it at most fabric stores. It comes in a variety of lengths. I have a vintage coin set with it. I added glass fringe to the set when I received it.

Re: DIY: Fringe
Native American craft supply houses also have it (for the shawl dancers). Try crazycrow.com.

Re: DIY: Fringe
If you want to really go rustic you can buy spools of chainette that you can attach to cording yourself. Just cut it two times longer than your desired length, fold it in half, and loop it around the cording and pull the loose ends through the loop. Takes forever, though you can make any color/length of fringe you like.

Doozer - love your quote.
I've seen it at Jo Ann's but its always blah colors and not long enough. Thanks for the websites, ladies. Have any of you ever worked with it? It is hard to work with it?

Re: DIY: Fringe
Chainette is remarkably easy to work with, but it can look kind of cheap unless you are really lavish with it. If there's a lot of it and it's put in layers, it has a lot of motion and is very lush.
