What's in a name....

I'm looking for the name of the set in the below photo (also contained in my profile picture if this link does not work). I don't know what their properly called so I am having difficulty trying to find more of them.

I call them bijou costumes as there are many colorful stones all together. I have seen others that incorporate little "flag" sequens and smaller beads into the sets as well.

They are stunning none the less and I would love to see where I can purchase a similar one but am at a loss because I don't know what their called.

    Anyone know?

Sassy little cousin to the Gem Sweater? I don't know, but it is awfully pretty. It probably wouldn't be too hard to duplicate.

I may have to duplicate it instead of buying it. I've never ever found the bra to this one though...

i've never seen one for sale. only on that album cover (latin american belly dance or something like that?)
really pretty, i'm thinking you'd have to comission someone to make it or do it urself..
there are bedlahs that i call 'chunkies' that resemble this tho:

    Re: What's in a name....

I've made several like this. I call them jeweled bedlahs. I've seen only one similar for sale and it was more of a mosaic, with squares of jewels, beads & sequins.

Multicolor jewels on black velvet (shows the back of the belt):

Blue, turquoise, white and violet jewels on blue (the back):

I arrange the jewels closely on the covered bedlah and sew or glue them. Some are acrylic, some are real rhinestones.

Actually these are a LOT easier to make than the ones with beaded patterns.

I don't think it has a specific name but I'd probably search for 'mosaid' or 'jeweled' costumes.

That photo is from a clip art collection, but the costume must have come from somewhere originally.

I remember an orange one like that at Dahlal a year or so ago, but I don't recall the designer. You could e-mail the photo to different retailers and ask if they have anything similar.

You could also choose a designer and ask them to recreate the style for you as a custom order.

Oh, I just left this thread and saw an ad for the online game Bejeweled and I remembered -- that was the name of the similar costume Dahlal had! That was Dahlal's name for the one particular model, I mean.

I searched, she doesn't have it any more but here's an example in white that came up on Swap Meet:

They also had a hot pink one - called "Bejeweled" here: https://www.dahlal.com/PDF/ith_may2008.pdf They have it under the "Rising Star" category. (Wish they would just say who the designer is.)

I have seen so many stock photos of that orange costume!

Wow, looks like a project even a dummy like me can handle. Now I really want to make one!

Great thing about this design is that you don't have to be too picky with colors or beading.

They have bags of those jewel beads in bulk at JoAnn's. I've even seen buttons exactly like the one just below her navel at JoAnn's, too. This would not be hard or expensive to replicate.

I don't know if this helps at all, but I recognized the shot -- the photographer has other images from that photo shoot available up on Istock. IStockPhoto Search Results: the photographer is
    Zhenikeyev, search term is Dancer

If you flip through those pages, you can get a good look at the whole costume from several angles.

    Wow, that's helpful!

Kind of an odd bra, but the costume sure looks good in photos!

I have one like this. In fact, I'm wearing it in my avatar, but it's really hard to see. I'll have to take other pics in it.

This is bigger - it's still hard to see, though. It's attached. The bra and belt are both jeweled.

Both...some of the the jewels had holes, and those I sewed with fishing wire type thread. Some did not and those I glued, using Aleene's Jewel Glue. You can also glue the ones with holes - actually the glue seeps into the holes and adheres them even better, and it dries clear.

By mixing a few expensive rhinestones with the cheaper acrylic jewels, you get the best of both. The acrylic jewels provide the bold color, shape, and glow affordably. The rhinestones sparkle much more. But if you covered the whole piece with them it would cost a LOT. You might see this on professional skating and ballroom dancing costumes.

It would cost a WHOLE lot!!! I'm a big girl. Good to know that the two types can be combined.

thanks for the tips. DinaLydia. I'm having trouble finding coloured stones in the sew on variety so maybe I'll try gluing some.
