Zebra print for a skirt... Uh?... What sens?
Ahem! Sounds like a stupid question, but I want to be sure.

I purchased a beautyful zebra printed fabric from Surida similar to the one on the next pics. It's very pretty and 2 way strecht.
I'm want to make a straight skirt with matching headband and gauntlets, and my question is which way would the design be the best... Hum?
Horizontaly:

Or verticaly:

My 1st choice goes to verticaly (read more alongating to the silhouette)... But then in there a rule...? Watcha think?
The he he, this is a pic I took last August at Park Safari. Well most of the pattern of the stripes are verticaly on the beast... Makes sens, no?

I vote vertical! Love that pic! Art should have no rules!

I'd say vertical too, but if you look from a distance the zebra print has horizontal darker stripes too. Whichever way it will look great.

Sorry, maybe this is a dumb question, but it the fabric is 2-way stretch, aren't you restricted to the direction of stretch?

I made these quick zebra cossies a while ago for a duet (that's me on the left) I didn't have enough fabric to have the stripes vertical (I managed to make 2 costumes out of 2.2 yards -lol!) but the stripes still looked nice.

I think either way can work if done right. Vertical is definitely slimming, though. But maybe you should hold up the fabric and look at it from far and see what you can see :). The costumes in the pictures above are very nice, the vertical lines in the patter look great! Better than if it would have been horizontal.

That dark stripe gives a strong vertical element in the duet photo. If the zebra stood up the stripes are horizontal. I think your print is more abstract than the duet photo...so you can do as you like.

Re: Zebra print for a skirt... Uh?... What sens?
I, too, got some really cool zebra print fabric from the swap meet and had a straight skirt made first (even wearing it tonight at CJ Arthur's Restaurant where I'm dancing tonight!:)): But I went the way that firefly did & my stripes go horizontally, b/c I was following the stripe-pattern of Angelika Nemeth's latest cd cover pic where her zebra stripes are going more horizontal. I can't wait to see what yours (vertical stripes:)) looks like when done!!!..g.:

Oh these zebras are adorable. I like the vertical better from the first look, but those pictures of the 2 yard miracle are gorgeous too for horizontal!

An example of the stripes in motion would help.
Here's Dilek from the Las Vegas Bellydance Intensive on the festival stage. The stripes are horizontal.

I like the horizontal stripes because the heavier black areas creates a vertical stripe too. (I have a zebra circle skirt hanging now, so I didn't have to make that decision because I get both directions.)

Has anyone done a giraffe print yet? I have a new giraffe print handbag which I adore. It's my new favorite.
