Thread: What color should I wear?

Hi, everyone. I'm looking for advice. I plan to perform a choreography at the local RenFaire in November and trying to decide on a costume color. I don't want to wear one of my expensive costumes though - it's outdoors and who knows what the weather will be. Even the sponsor recommended we don't wear anything too fancy.

The choreography is entitled "Venus Awakens" (by Blanca from Sensual Bellydance). I'm trying to decide whether to wear a blue/white pant set (mostly tribaret style, I'm guessing) with a paillette fringe belt. My husband calls it my Dallas Cowboy cheerleader outfit because of the colors.

The other outfit I'm considering is a burgundy circle skirt with a gold bra/belt set. Lots of fringe. But I'm not sure that I want a dark color with this choreography.

Any suggestions?

I don't know the music but I would go with burgundy because of the month, November. It would fit the season and the mood. The other outfit sounds gorgeous but I would keep that for summer.

do you have a ghawazee coat or something similar that would go with your burgundy skirt? That might be better for a Renn fair, especially in November. Or something like an L. Rose half top and a hip shawl with your burgundy skirt.

The blue set makes me think of something very contemporary, and thus I would think that it is not the best choice for that specific event. With the burgundy, I'd still worry whether it may be too modern, but it sounds a bit less obviously so.

yes, Edna..I tell my troupies no sequins, no glass fringe for Renn/Sca stuff. Coins... good...sequins...bad! November in NM is still pretty hot unless it is a fluke. If you are on a raised stage with a skirt..dont forget the pants.

def the burgundy skirt. renfaires are notoriously dirty/dusty. wouldn't risk a costume with white in it.

I also suggest you go with the most natural of fibers... outdoor dancing is NOT FUN in synthetics.

Theora's Belly dance Boutique on Ebay has some pictures of Renn Faire style costuming that might be useful. She also makes reasonably priced costume pieces.
