Thread: ISO pictures of crochet beaded skirts

I know some of you have those lovely crochet and beaded mesh-like trumpet skirts and gauntlets you just can't buy any more.

Wanna share some closeup and general pictures with me?

I have basic crochet skills and figure a basic chain mesh crochet with beads (beads and sequins) can't be THAT hard....and if I crack the code you know I'll share with the class.

totally can't help, but I remember my teacher in the early 90's bought a bright yellow set in Turkey and had me model it. It was tiny! It was a trumpet shaped skirt (which was new to me back then) that was all net like this one is. There were a lot of sequins-how were those in there??? The rest of the costume was a tiny bikini. Sequin covered crochetted panties and a tiny sequin covered crochetted bra top.

I love that photo. I didn't know you couldn't get those sequined skirts anymore. I remember ( old lady that I am ) that they were everywhere for awhile.

Ozma, if you figure this one out, you are going to be One Popular Woman! Can I get in line for one now? ;-)

Man, When you crack that code, I'll be looking for that post. Those skirts are great!

Saw it, but it's a very different technique than embelishing crochet garment with beads.

Oh, If I crack the code I am sharing the code...I'm not such an insane person as to start producing those for others...I don't think.

i remember seeing a tutorial on beads a while back, but it was in my BBD days (Before Belly Dance). Will do a search and post if I find anything.

I have only limited experience with beaded crochet, but I'll say this 1- plastic beads. On something the size of a skirt, the weight of glass beads will make that netting streeeeeeeetch (and it's easier to find plastic bead that have a hole big enough for a hook to go through) and 2-pre-beaded yarn costs an arm, a leg, an eyeball and a testicule (and that's just for one skein...).

The beading is ON the thread - you would need to string the beads/sequins on first - and the beading on my crochet dress is short bugles, like what we used to call Egyptian seed beeds. I'll take pix.

I have an ooooooold catalog from Bella. Pretty sure there is one of those skirts in there ...... let me see if I can find it and scan it and get that for you.... the dinosaur is learning how to scan, lol .......

I know how to prestring beads and how to add them as I crochet, I've made some pretty fussy knitted items with tiny beads...I just need a good sense of how many links per chain, how many beads per chain, if I should embellish with sequins as well.

Not exactly what you're looking for, but it would look lovely over a trumpet skirt, wouldn't it?


I'll go through my collection of "yarn stuff" sometime this week and see if I have any appropriate patterns or images...

www.ravelry.com seems to have some interesting skirt patterns as well. You have to sign up, though.

Here you go! From what I can tell, it looks as if the skirt was crocheted in a big semi circle then sewn together. There is only one seam. Also, based on the light green thread running underneath I would guess that the sequins were sewn on afterwards. Just a guess though.

Guantlets, just above the elbow and a loop to go around the middle finger.

That would make sense. It would be way too many beads/sequins to pre-string on the yarn. But even if sewing them on, there is a lot of time involved with something like this... Time I do not have... i need to stop. ogling.
