Metal Bits
I'm making a tribaret set for a troupe mate. The bra is going to incorporate some metal boobie cups. I went sketch crazy last night and sketched a belt to match...except I have to wonder what I would use to incorporate metal into the belt to compliment the bra.
In my sketch I've drawn in washers but I don't know if that is going to cut it. It looks beautiful in my head, though.
You guys got any ideas?

Re: Metal Bits
aluminium (in sheets) is your friend. you'll need special cutters (heavy duty scissors, they look oversized) but you can do a lot of stuff with it. you can either poke a holewith a punch and use that to sew on the belt or use pop rivets.
HTH!

Re: Metal Bits
Aluminum flashing for roofing is great and inexpensive, available at Lowe's, Home Depot, hardware stores, etc. You could probably scrounge some scrap from roofing sites to experiment. Use a file to smooth the cut edges. I have also glued bias tape along the edges - the contrast of black bias tape with the aluminum is striking. For a different look some of the same stores sell aluminim in different patterns, some in different colors.

I never heard of "flashing" - but then I don't spend much time in hardware stores. BUT doing research for my new Tribal costume book, I am seeing a lot of hardware used in all sorts of ways for that postmodern metal industrial look, often mixed with contrasting soft or sparkly materials in surprising ways.
Do you have pictures of such a decoration using "flashing'? If so, maybe I could use it in my book.
