    Airport Specials - Confess!

Do you have one you can't seem to part with for some reason? Or that you bought knowing full well that it is, or toes the line of being, an airport special?

I do. I can't help but like it, though. It's a Turkish set, and toe the line of Airport Special. I call it my Mardi Gras costume (purple, green & gold). It's beaded & sequined sewn on, but lightweight & not the heavy Egyptian workhorse type.

I've made some minor adjustments: removed the looped belly drape, added a layer of gold fringe (that I already had) under the existing sparse belt fringe & it made a world of difference. Pulled the cups in closer together & added a bit of matching gold fringe to the center connector and plan to turn the green & purple beaded loop drape into individual strands and attach with the gold center fringe.

Basic Egyptian workhorse it ain't but I can't help but like this crazy set. Anyone else want to confess, too? .w.: ..l;,

    Re: Airport Specials - Confess!

I have a couple of sets from India which have held up much better than I expected. Now, I have to confess, I don't wear them regularly, but I get the odd request to dress up a member of the audience, these are perfect.

Also, I have looked at them closely, and for something like a student group, as long as the right bra is built in and the belts / hip scarves are frey checked, these aren't bad looking and they are affordable.

(Note: I also have done minor work including putting in real straps so I can wear a real bra underneath.

when i was 7 my family and i went to turkey and, of course, we came back with an airport special. i wore it as a carnival costume (with a sparkly top and opaque tights underneith) and paired it with a head-dress and "harem-shoes"...i might be able to find a picture...

My first one was a nicer workhorse silver one from early Turkish Emporium. I am actually fixing it up to look more modern and nicer. ..l;, I can't get rid of it. It's going good though! Almost done. I have pics on the WAYWO? thread.
