OK, I seem to be stuck before I start.. I was going to try making bra/belt homemade combo out of some dresses from a thrift stop, found some amazing material, washed it all in cold delicate, but the best of the lot, a velvet with small glitter sparkles all over keeps shedding the glitter. Any idea how to mass glue/secure the glitter or should I just consider that purchase a loss??,m::
I don't really want to sew it on if I am just going to shed the whole time.. Embarrassing! Any thoughts? Thanks, Aunna

I'd also like to know if anybody has found the cure for glitter shedding fabrics.

Me too. I have a bunch of them in bins that I haven't used. Why do they even manufacture them like that?

Re: Please help me stop the glitter!!
Once upon a time, I had some kind of spray on glue that helped- but it was still a hassle, cause it washed out eventually. Now I just wash the fabric several times 'till it looses all it's going to loose- and I wash it on 'normal' instead of delicate. My husband hates it when I get new glitter fabric 'cause there is always glitter on his t-shirts for a week.

Re: Please help me stop the glitter!!
I no longer buy glitter fabric. When I did I would wash it inside 2 pillow cases then shake it outdoors to allow the loose glitter to fall away. After it dried I actually vacuumed the fabric. That helped with the shedding but it was just too time-consuming.

Scotchgard, it won't stop the shedding but it reduces it.
You may have to do more then once, also test the fabric first to see if it has a negative reaction with the chemicals, and use outdoors or in a well ventilated area only.

I guess I'm weird, but I like the glitter shed! Little drops of happiness that stay no matter how many times I vacuum.....g.:

The glitter products I buy from L. Rose Designs do not shed except very minimally. I wonder what they use - maybe you can ask them.

Thanks all!; at least I am not alone. I will try to wash again and vacuum then spray maybe... I thought if I put enough cover materials and appliques on it so it would be more background, I may be able to get away with it. We will see.. , Aunna

Re: Please help me stop the glitter!!
I am so glad I'm not the only one frustrated by this problem. Recently I came back from vacation to find that my troupe had decided to make matching skirts out of fabric covered with a glitter vine pattern. The second I touched it, I was absolutely covered in glitter. I ended up digging glitter out of my eye twice during the process of sewing the skirt.
My husband even forbid me to cut the fabric in the living room for fear of him becoming covered in it as well. He says "glitter is the herpes of the craft world; once you've got it, you can't rid of it."
I've told the ladies that I will NEVER again use glitter fabric for a costume.

Re: Please help me stop the glitter!!
all of these are great ideas. i too stopped buying glitter fabric because it just sheds too much. i used to just wash the fabric in the sink first and then rinse it while swishing it around to make sure whatever will fall off falls off.
Other than that, i always accuse my husband of cheating on me whenever i find glitter in his beard.....g.:..g.:..g.: even though i know it all comes from cutting the fabrics on the living room floor. it gets onto everything...in the food, on the cats...everywhere. great ideas ladies. i have to try some of these with the remainders of the glitter fabrics that i have.

I can't stop laughing over this - glitter really is the herpes of the craft world.
Like Sandra, I like the trail of glitter wherever I go. Sometimes restaurants don't though - at the end of the set, I turned around and it looked like the floor was made of pink glitter!
