Thread: False eyelashes before or after shadow?

I've been watching Azhia's tutorial and other threads on false eyelash application. I want to wear just the most subtlest of lashes for everyday (not performing) and wanted to play around at home first. I bought the least dramatic set of lashes I could find and have two questions:

1. Do you apply your normal shadow, eyeliner before or after applying lashes? (would it inhibit the glue to stick if you put make up on first?)

2. If you do apply them after, can you put a thin coat of mascara over both your own lashes and the false ones to blend the two? or does that ruin the false lashes for a second wear?

i apply my lashes last. i put the lashes on, then put eyeliner on top to blend them into my own eyeline- esp in case i mess up and it's not lining up perfect.
i put mascara on after that. i've had it done before false lash application and not see an advantage. and i've never had it be a problem for re-use. but i also only wear lashes 4-5 times.

I'm still not an expert at putting them on so I do it first, 20 minutes or so before I do the rest of my makeup. That way if I'm going to have problems (a corner lifting, my eyelid trying to stay glued open) i can fix it without sacrificing any other makeup.

But when I'm more confident I'll probably do them last like Latriamou.

Also, I find the ones with the invisible band are the most natural looking for daytime/up close.

I've been using 'em for years, & I can still mess them up! I put them on first 'cause you wouldn't believe where I've managed to get eyelash glue. ymmv. I also put mascara on after the false lashes 'cause it helps them stay in place as well as blending them in better. I wash mine between uses anyway (mild soap, just like for my brushes) and i don't expect to get a ton of usage out of each set- I am more worried about infections than about leftover make up tho!

I apply them after everything else (except glitter) then add a little extra liner to make sure they blend in. If I put them on first I completely ruin it LOL

Have you tried the individual lashes? Some folks have great success with those for every day wear.

I do foundation/skin stuff first, then false lashes, then eyebrows*, then all eye color/liner/glitter. I like to get the lashes on early so I don't have to think about them, and when the glue dries (I use Duo surgical adhesive) it is no problem to get shadow, glitter or liner over it. I fill in any space between my natural lash line and the flase lash line with shadow.

I always use mascara over my real lashes and false lashes, I like the way they blend together. It does not stop me from using the lashes a second time (Usually twice is my max for false lashes though). I do the mascara last. Cheeks and lips come last of all!

*The look of only a smooth face, false lashes, and defined dark eyebrows is so odd!

I would love to try these but have no clue as to how to wear them for everyday. They seem even harder to put on than a full lash.w.:

Wish I could help there - I just sit in awe when I see people effortlessly putting them on one at a time :)

I find individuals much more difficult than a band (btw, try half a band or a third of a band on the outer corners for fun) because each clump must be on the same line and facing the same angle as the others. With a band, all the spacing and angling is done for you, you just have to negotiate the strip.

Can you reccommend a size lash (eg #109) or brand that may accomplish this look for everyday?

That is difficult to say without seeing you. I would just go to Sally's and pick up a few Ardell's to play with.

And a lot of the Happy Harry's have Ardells, and special "Halloween ones" I am now officially a lash addict ..g.:

Most youtube makeup gurus (I got into watching makeup tutorials only this summer, and will be ordering my first actual makup stuff like brushes and different eye shadow colours and primer etc etc - I love panacea, makeupgeek, MakeupAdikt - my favourite!!, pursebuzz, I probably forgot some :) ) all of them apply the lashes after all the colour on the eye, before the mascara. Second last thing on the eyes so to speak. I think you could not apply the shadow close enough tot he lashline otherwise, or where the glue dries it is see through, but I'm pretty sure you can't apply eyeshadow on top of it..

OMG, I haven't thought of Happy Harry's in years! Lorelei, you are showing your Delaware-ness!

(Happy Harry's is a chain of drugstores in Delaware, same thing as Rite Aid/CVS/Walgreens but with a cartoon Happy Harry mascot.)

Back to topic, there are tons of funky lashes out now for Halloween, I am waiting till they all go on clearance in a few weeks to fill my coffers.
