October diet and fitness thread
It didn't look like anyone had started this yet for the month, so here we go....
I lost 1.5 pounds for the month of September. Not a lot, but I really can't complain. There was one week during the month where I attended a conference for two days and had to eat hotel food. On top of that in the same week, I had a barbeque to attend and another work related social gathering with restaurant food and beer. I threw up my hands that week and said, I'm just going to do the best I can and fix the damage later. I gained two pounds that week. So, really I lost 3.5 pounds for September.
I find myself now 1.5 pounds away from the upper end of my weight goal range. I'm trying to get to between 125 and 130. As of my last weigh in last week, I'm 131.5. I feel good. I may even hit that goal this week.
I've been slacking on using my elliptical trainer as much as I ususally do. I need to re-energize myself there and just keep on eating what I've been eating for the past two or so months and I'll get there sooner or later.
How are the rest of you doing?

I'm not doing very well - I've got to get back to the gym!!!! I am going to do a Zumba class tomorrow and then Friday I will work out and, maybe, do another class of some sort. I am trying to watch what I eat but it is soooo difficult at times. I have my mother living with us and she likes her treats!!!!! lol

I feel your pain. My Fiance is an ice cream fiend. He can eat gobs of it and not gain an ounce. Argh!
I'd love to try a Zumba class sometime. Sounds like fun.

Re: October diet and fitness thread
I had stopped tracking my calories & weight back in May because I was "close enough" to my goal weight & tired of the hassle. But our big family reunion cookout the end of July always does me in. We end up with loads of leftover sweet treats, burgers & brats, so I end up steadily gaining over the next few weeks. I tried to start tracking again in mid-August, but the LiveStrong/DailyPlate site just wasn't cooperating with my dial-up connection.
We found out a couple weeks ago that we'll be spending the week after Christmas in Puerto Vallarta ..g.: so now the push is on to get into bathing suit shape before then. The bugs at LiveStrong seem to be ironed out, so I'm tracking again. Since mid-August I've lost about 2 1/2 lbs. I've got 8-10 lbs to go to reach my goal weight.
Unfortunately, apple season isn't very good to me either... apple cider, cider donuts, caramel apples with nuts..w.: I'm trying to only indulge within reason, but will need to up my exercise to offset all the yummy goodies. I have a feeling I'm going to have to go hard-core on the diet & exercise between Thanksgiving & Christmas. LOL

Re: October diet and fitness thread
Way to go shahla! 1.5 away from your goal! my goal is to lose 7 pounds...i dont know how realisitic that is because I already work out a lot and eat quite healthy. sometimes i over do the portions. that's my biggest problem.
however, i've been doing cardio and resistance training 3 times a week when time allows, or else just twice a week. i've actually gained 5 pounds i think....but it doesn't show so it must be muscle. my legs are still getting more toned every week and I think I can at least get down to 127 by Christmas time.
keep going on that elliptical!!

Re: October diet and fitness thread
I've been doing Body for life for about a month now and after almost a year on the Daily plate with no results, I actually lost 4 pounds. But here's the curious thing: once I stepped up my excercise, the scale went back up 4 pounds, Now before you jump to the "you gained muscle" conclusion, I had actually already been exercising then for most of the last month had so much remodeling projects to get done on the house, was immersed in painting, etc. Could the weigh loss have been from being in constant (though not aerobic) motion? or was it just a fluke? or is my body holding onto the calories now that I am back to exercising?
PS are beans considered a protein? NOt green beans, but black, kidney, garbanzos etc?

Re: October diet and fitness thread
yes beans are a great source of protein!
as for your body holding calories due to working out now.....i doubt it. ive never heard of it though. maybe you're eating more now that you're exercising and need more calories to sustain energy? idk.

I'm still trying to figure out what my ideal weight should be. My lowest was around 116. Right now I'm about 127. Obviously I've gained a bit. I'm 5'4"

Re: October diet and fitness thread
Im going to try cardio barre for the first time tomorrow. my skinny sister raves about it & I promised her I would give it a try. ugh, been dragging my feet in dread for some reason. I dont do well with "excercise classes" as opposed to dance classes. I have flaked on three classes so far. I just keep envisioning myself sitting things out and panting in the back of the class room. lol.

Re: October diet and fitness thread
oooh so there are 4 of us with the same goal. please tell me how to do it. I don't over eat. I feel faint if I don't get enough. I work out hard. My body struggles to lose that last bit of weight and I can always tell when I'm about to drop a pound because I crave fatty dairy foods. cheese, yogurt, icecream, I even want to get a latte with whole milk (I am strictly a skim milk girl) so please help me out!

Re: October diet and fitness thread
I've lost 4lbs since I joined the YMCA in June. Three times per week, I do an hour of weight training, step aerobics and yoga.
I'd like to get down to 125-120lbs from 150.

Re: October diet and fitness thread
I was doing the Body for Life program for a while, and it worked great for me. The first month or so wasn't too dramatic, but seriously, keep track of your measurements. That was my motivation on it. My numbers on the scale weren't too big, but the loss of inches around my waist and hips were great.
As far as beans go, I really liked having them as an added source of protein because I'm not a huge meat-eater, but I would count them as half a starch an half a protein when you're putting your meals together.
When I had them as my starch on a meal, I'd eat a smaller portion of protein and eat a non-starchy vegetable with it. That seemed to help. If I didn't eat the vegetable with it, I always felt just awful, even though it wasn't a large portion.
As an added bonus, I had so much more energy when I did the BFL program and was much more organized since you had to work in your work-out time and plan out your meals ahead of time. Are you doing the competition with it?

I'm not making any progress at all ,m:: I am really disgusted. I get started then either my allergies start up, or I get a virus, or I get really busy at work and/or at home and don't have time. I haven't gained but I want to lose about seven pounds.
And the holidays will be approaching soon. . ..w.:

Re: October diet and fitness thread
Well, I am not going to the Y today - it's just raining and raining and raining and I really don't want to go out!!!!! I'll try to do some floor exercises here at home and, hopefully, next week, will get back on track again!!!! I am going to a workshop tomorrow and will take my lunch - salad, fruit, almonds for snack, not sure what else but it will be a healthy lunch!!!!
I see there are a number of us that are aiming for the same goal weight. Of course, we want it to just fall off now but we all know that isn't going to happen! lol I'm going to try hard to get most of that weight off within the next twelve weeks!

I reached the upper range of my goal weight today. Yay for me. I'd still like to lose a couple more pounds and then work begins on maintenance. Wow, this weight was hard to take off. Must work harder and have a plan for maintenance.

Re: October diet and fitness thread
My success has not been so good. My weight keeps bouncing around in large increments and my focus right now is staying "on plan". Been doing a lot of self discovery more or less in regards to my emotional eating.
Yes, I'm one of those cats. Stress, depression, anger, frustration, restlessness, boredom equals me wanting mass quantities of cake. I think I've actually made some progress in dealing with my triggers for binge eating. I have always had this automatic response when it comes to emotional eating. Meaning: I really don't know I'm binging until after I've binged.
Now that I know what I am doing, its been easier for me to manage this which is a real big deal for me. This is very important because emotional eating is whats kept me at a size 16 for the past two years. Time to make a change here.
Been reaching for my hula hoop in lieu of cake when the "attacks" come.
This week I've finally settled back into my work out routine. After a nasty flu and the coughing/congestion that lingered with it I had not been really all that active. This week changed. I hooped Wednesday, did some yoga, and then practiced sword/floor work. Yesterday I drilled-drilled-drilled-drilled-drilled for about two hours.
Drilling, for me, is always a cardio workout.

Re: October diet and fitness thread
My first month back on Weight Watchers and I dropped about 15 pounds!! Of course, I'm fighting a cold right now so I'm more inclined to eat poorly (sonic drive-thru last night... oops), but I'm still determined to try!
I need to up my exercise to include more than just dance and walking the dog. Luckily, my WW location has a deal with the nearby gym. The gym is giving free one month trials to anyone who attends six consecutive meetings before the end of October. I only have two meetings to go and then I can start at the gym.
I figure if I get myself to a free gym 3x a week for a month, then I'll join because I'll have built the habit of showing up there. I've had gym memberships in the past that have gone largely unused.

Re: October diet and fitness thread
awesome Mihri!!
I have gone down a pant size (this is me working out since June) but its still better! No drop in the scale though. I must be gaining muscle. Was so hungry yesterday though that I couldn't workout. Am trying to do cardio and lift weights 3 x a week. I have to do the cardio twice a week for a class I'm taking, but the other day just feels so darn good so I do it when time allows.
I can't believe how much more fun it is to workout when mixing it up. I used to run for 7 miles. Now if I run for more than 1 mile I'm BORED and even wanting to do squat jumps. Which are hard.

Yay for mixing it up: I won't be able to drill today so I gotta get motivated and go for a nice, brisk walk after work today. Wish I could afford Gym membership sometimes...Its so darn hot out still down here in South Florida.
