question for Tanya LV
Hi! YOure makeup always looks sooo professional and just glamorous. How did you learn to do it? did you go to makeup school?
There is such a difference in the way professional makeup looks and I just wish there was a way that I could learn what that key is. I've actually looked into a makeup course which is 8 weeks long and cost 5k. but I really want to learn to do makeup more so I can do MY OWN makeup versus go into business. sureley there's a better way. sometimes I THINK my makeup loos professional (I invest in lots of makeup and do full mekeup when Iperform) but when I see pictures it just looks so average.
I know this is random, I just thought to ask you because I was admiring your pics on the vegas wedding thread and have always noticed your pro look!
thanks!

Re: question for Tanya LV
TanyaLV does look fab!! :) But just so you know, there's a wonderful thorough how-to makeup DVD by a super-talented makeup artist AND bellydancer, fellow bhuzzer AZHIA!! I totally swear by it; I learned how to make peace and work with false eyelashes. My husband even watched it with me hehehe :))

Re: question for Tanya LV
oh yeah, thats right. I forgot all about that. Im just wondering if it would be comprehensive enough. I just dont know exactly what thia process is that makes the difference between good makeup (I do lashes , smokey eyes, foundation, concealer, bronzer etc) and fantastic pro looking. people have told me they like my makeup but it just seems to lacking something...maybe ill get that dvd.but im seriously considering going someplace where someone can show me what is best for me. I did a mac makeover and she did my makeup very generically. ah, maybe ill find some sort of weekend blitz course.

Re: question for Tanya LV
I've never watched Tanya do her makeup but i can tell you that she wears double eyelashes- two pairs of eyelashes. i've done it before. with double eyelashes, u dont even have to apply a lot of other makeup, the transformation is very dramatic.

Re: question for Tanya LV
She always looks so crisp and perfect! I look at her facebook pics a lot of the times, and I always wonder, that after partying, someone just takes a picture and she still looks perfect. You can often compare her to the other people in the pictures, and suspect that "something is going on" :)))
Tanya, how do you do it??
Maybe the trick is good primer and foundation, but I have yet to find that out.

Re: question for Tanya LV
I've met her in person when she and her family were in Tokyo.
Damned if she doesn't look like that all the time. I would have felt totally intimidated by her being a glamazon had she not been one fo the sweetest people one could hope to meet.

Haha, another admirer of Tanya's perfect make-up here, I think this is such a cute thread! I'm on a quest to find a lipstick in a "Tanya pink" instead of my usual red, inspired by her photos.

Re: question for Tanya LV
you need one pair that is slightly shorter than the other. shortones first, then the longer ones on top. it took me a little bit but i got it!

Re: question for Tanya LV
yep, lay them right on top of each other. i did the shorter ones on top- it looked more natural to me, i laid them on top of each other to see how it looked first, then glued one, then the other. it took some time but i got it.
i dont know what tanya's technique is but i know she wears two

Re: question for Tanya LV
I usually wear two pairs of lashes at a time, and it really depends on my mood what I pair. My trick is to glue them together first, then glue them to your lid. Then liner, then glitter (sometimes).
You might also try gluing singles to your band if you want a little extra oomph.
I can get one pair on easy-peasy, but the second pair never went on quite right, hence the stick 'em together approach.
Oh, and a couple of my hints for a "flawless face" - start with a good primer. Bare Minerals, Makeup Forever, and Smashbox (my fave) all make them. You should also get a good loose finishing powder. MAC makes a nice one, and I also really love Mineral Veil by Bare Minerals. Then, if you anticipate getting really sweaty, top it all off with a setting mist (I know Makeup Forever makes a good one) or a really fine mist of water (Evian makes one - but I don't recommend this if you go with makeup that is not waterproof). Kevyn Aucoin's books, Face Forward and Making Faces, are wonderful, and really changed the way I did my makeup, both for stage and everyday. I suggest checking them out!
Good luck!

Re: question for Tanya LV
When I met Tanya at the Fifi workshop in Dallas a while back she looked even prettier in person than in her picture! And, of course, she was looking at costumes. ;-)

Re: question for Tanya LV
AWwwww ladies...thanks soooo much! I am blushing (naturally)!! This was so nice to find....I love you guys!
Well..I am just a make-up lover. I did have classes when I was back in high school when I started doing photo shoots. I had the make-up artist at one of my shoots give me private classes and I still use alot of that same info. I have a thing with looking even ...so I am not the natural girl type...I do use a primer now...which is wonderful from Smashbox...it makes even the cheapest foundations lay better. I also powder alot to set the make-up. This is the only way it stays on through dancing or a big night out. I hardly ever touch up the base....it is there to stay! I also spray Evian spritzer on my face to set...
I have used every foundation on the earth...so I haven't quite found the PERFECT one...plus I change with seasons....I like Mary Kay..cream to powder...Smashbox and MakeUp Forever...and Loreal color match for some days.
I think all good make-up is trial and error. I think when I find a look that works for me...I tend to stick with it for a long time. I hardly ever like it when other people do my make-up...I think we all know our own faces and what look we like to portray. I am a wanna be make-up artist! I swear I will get into that at some point!
I do double lashes for performance..and yes I cut them shorter to fit my eyes and always let the glue dry almost all the way till you apply...they won't slide around. I have layered and also have put 2 pairs together first and apply...depending on the look I want. I usually tone down the lips because I never tone down my eyes!! Gotta give up one...I do try to wear a bit darker lip if I am on stage and at a further distance...
I think it is ALL the years of practice and knowing what I like to look like. I wear alot of make-up but that is just me...
I think great make-up for everyday is one thing...but for stage and performance...it really needs to be a little overdone to not look average.........
Thanks again for all of the fab compliments...it means alot to me! Kisses!Last edited by TanyaLV; 10-10-2009 at 05:33 PM.
