polyester w/metallic sheen; wash in washer? or no?

I bought some discount fabric marked 100% polyester, very light, with a slight shimmer, not really metallic. Transparent for a veil. (BTW its a slightly yellowy green.) It has a taffeta-like texture, but that could be the sizing, I'm-a-thinkin'

I want to hem it, but haven't had time... and I got to thinking:

The selvage edge is fringed already and the cut edges are already fray-ey. I think it might turn into a frankenstein in the washer, even on the delicate setting (front load).

Even though it's 100% polyester, should I hand wash it?

When in doubt I stuff the fabric in a lingerie bag and use the gentle cycle. I also leave washing machine the lid open so the machine stops before going into the spin cycle. The spin cycle is also rough on clothing with sequins and beads. I allow the items to drip dry.
