    Anyone made Hand Flowers?

I thought that this might be an easy foray into simple costuming. Has anyone made any of these? Pictures?

hi dancerose, could you be more specific? Right now I'm thinking about attaching flowers to a wristband, but I'm not sure that's what you mean.

Oh, sorry! Beaded ones like Ruby has on her upcoming floorwork dvd. I think that would be the easies to make. Or crocheted ones. Maybe, even ones out of jewelry making supplies. Something like that.

I had a pair made for me for one of my costumes! She did a beautiful job (they have peacock-colored stones in them to match my bedlah). I did ask her to use thin suede straps for the wrist bands to make them more comfortable/adjustable.

You can kind of see them in this picture: http://www.bhuz.com/index.php?cmd=/p...ara9/id_16618/.

Actually, back in 1998 I was intrigued by the slave bracelets out of India. I am a jewelry maker who works mostly with beads. I just had to try to make something similar. I coined the term "Hand flower" to give name to what I made. I meant no disrespect. I just wanted to see if I could do this. I believe I succeeded. If you know anyone else who is making handflowers or such, please let me know. I don't think I can patent a name as such, but I just feel I should set the record straight. Thanks so much.

You can't patent the name (that's for articles of manufacture, machines, processes, or compositions of matter) and if you made it from a similar design already in use anywhere in the world (like India), you might be tossing away money to try to patent the article, but you might be able to get a trademark. Then again, depending on how much time has elapsed and how many other people are using it now, it may be water under the bridge. (Proving conclusively it was yours now, 12 years later, may be difficult.)

United States Patent and Trademark Office if you want to look into it.

Thanks so much. I just kinda got a little irritated. But at least even now I seem to be the only one doing them as I do. I usually use semi-precious gemstone chips or Swarovski crystals in them. Currently I am working on one with Japanese seed pearls which would be fitting even for a marriage ceremony. Thanks for the heads up again.

I saw a dancer that made "footsies" out of a large sequince applique. The applique was a leave that sat right on top of the foot and she crochet (?) strings that went around her 2nd toe and the ankle. Maybe you can make something similar for the hand?Appliques from bellydanceshoppe.com
    (3 inch leaf applique)
I just don't know how to add a picture to this reply.

I haven't made anything for the foot as yet. I have made a few anklets. It shouldn't be hard to make a foot flower, but I really don't know the average size or inches I would need to make one. I would need the size of the ankle +1inch for movement, and the inches from the anklet to where the flower would lay, as well as how wide, and then the inches from the flower to the toes and how many toes would be used for ties. Now a toe ring I know nothing of. I use glass and stones in my creations, and I would be worried of the glass breaking with too much stomping. Any info or tips would be appreciated.
