Clear strap, floating cup costumes - what do you think?
Recently I bought an eman where the neck and back straps are clear. It's gorgeous...But one of the most revealing costumes I've seen (in terms of the bra, the skirt is quite covered up) and I'm starting to second guess myself about it. Do any of you own one, or have you seen them, and if so, what do you think?

Re: Clear strap, floating cup costumes - what do you think?
I'm not such a fan of the clear straps, but not because of the speculative notion this costume gives of not being hold up on anything, floating, not being closed in a sense, but rather because I personally don't like the material which you can see ocasionally when it shines in the light. and yes maybe in sense of optical harmony, I like to see a "whole" costume and not bits of it.
It sure is revealing, but other costumes by Eman and Sahar are, too...
Anyway, to own an Eman is a great thing, I wish I had one, clear straps or not,r:;
Even though, eshtabellydancer she does wonderful designs, her fairy costume was very smart the way it had only one visible strap.

They're beautiful.
I personally don't have the body to pull them off, but they've looked amazing on many other dancers!
Sarahamh is correct, a properly fitted bra/hip is essential for the more body conscious designs - as is a big old confident smile!

Re: Clear strap, floating cup costumes - what do you think?
I've only seen a few that I've loved. Personally, I think it's a symmetry thing. And a "not wanting to look like I'm wearing pasties" thing .w.:
Even though the clear plastic is supposed to appear invisible, it often tends to have the opposite effect and look really shiny. I often find the plastic to be somewhat distracting to look at.
And my guess is that they'll go out of style reeeeeeeeally fast and there will be hoardes of them on the Swap Meet in a year or two. Plus, you can only wear them to a limited number of venues - I'd never dream of busting out an Eman pasty costume at a corporate event.
Somebody duct tape my mouth!

Come on Lisa, I double dog dare you to wear an Eman pasty at one of those Fairfield CT events. Oh the humanity...

Re: Clear strap, floating cup costumes - what do you think?
my bird had clear straps and i didnt have any problems with it, i dont think they show up ugly in my photos. the only reason i sold it was to raise money for other things, not because i thought it was out of style, etc. for me, it's about what i like and what looks good on me, not what is in style.
i say, rock the clear straps!

I don't think they look stripper like at all....like I said, once the bra is the correct size I think this is a very elegant style. I don't own one...yet...but I'm always on the look out for one.

I've seen Ranya Renee wear these and they look great on her. But, like the other posts, if the bra fits correctly, it looks quite nice ( my opinion ).

I don't care for them, they look a bit strippery on most people. Or could just be jealous because they wouldn't have looked good on mee even when I was young, lol!

Re: Clear strap, floating cup costumes - what do you think?
I saw a YouTube video (which was actually a slide show) of my friend DIlek (Bhuzer 'turkishdancer') performing in a blue costume where there's a clear strap between the bra cups. (I've actually seen her up close during a performance in that same costume). It looks a tad unusual, but it's a very beautiful costume and looks good on her.
I wish I could find the vid but it may have aged off YouTube.

I don't like them either. If you are performing for an audience of dancers who know the construction of the costume, I guess it isn't too much of a problem, but I would be afraid a "barely there" outfit like that would draw a lesser audience's focus away from your dancing. You don't want to be pouring your heart into a performance for a bunch of people who are sitting there staring at your chest and wondering if there's really a strap there or if the fabric is glued to your body, or if the whole thing is held together somehow with illusion netting, because then they're not paying any attention to what you're there to do.
I'm a firm believer in costume intention--don't give their minds an opportunity to wander over potential wardrobe malfunctions. Let them see you're fully dressed and you intend to stay that way.

Re: Clear strap, floating cup costumes - what do you think?
There's a goth store near my house that carries a lot of dresses the exotic dancers wear onstage.
BIG GIANT difference in an Eman! Not even close.
If any of you did see Eman's "bird," as Latrimou mentioned hers - it's GORGEOUS. The detail, impeccible beadworks, cut and exceptional design is amazingly beautiful. That design is such that it could hold a larger cup and not lose support. I'm a D cup - and you couldn't catch me in any of the kind that have the clear straps underneath (ala bikini) that seem better suited for A-B cup girls.
It's still good fit and proper design (fabrics, cut etc) -and what you feel truly beautiful in. :)Last edited by Sahirah_Badr; 10-20-2009 at 12:09 PM.

I don't like them on certain figures. I think they look fine on smaller women but women who need more support it doesn't always look very classy and on some it looks tawdry. I wouldn't wear it on my figure and I think I'm somewhere in the middle.
Just my two cents.

Re: Clear strap, floating cup costumes - what do you think?
This happened to me watching a performance at Rak E this past weekend. There was a stunning dancer in a clear strap costume and the whole time all I could do was stare at her impressive chest and worry her bra might burst....and I am another dancer...who knew the straps were just see through. I would hate to hear what the thoughts in the gp mind's would be! So for me anyways, I think if you are an A or B cup you might get away with it but with a C cup or above the public is going to be focusing on your boobs and not your dancing.

Re: Clear strap, floating cup costumes - what do you think?
They tend to distract me from the dance - my eyes can't help but look for the construction details. Even if it's perfectly fitted to the dancer. While I can appreciate the sculptural/artistic effect of the costumes as beautiful... it still seems more teasing/titilating/over-sexualized than I'd be comfortable with for my own costume. Granted, when I see other dancers wearing them, I don't get that far... fighting the desire to check for plastic straps is enough to keep my mind occupied. ;)

Re: Clear strap, floating cup costumes - what do you think?
DD cup here, and I wear them and love them and feel like a million bucks in them. It's about fit and good design, like Shiva said. Bra size alone has nothing to do with what costumes I can wear.
That being said, I have costumes that I wear at a restaurant or bellygram, and costumes that I wear for other dancers like at a gala. The invisible strap costumes fall into the latter category for me.

I definitely agree, certain costumes for certain types of venues.

Re: Clear strap, floating cup costumes - what do you think?
I find them distracting. I tend to focus on the shiny clear straps and the stressed tissue beneath and not the performance. Plus I feel they can give a less than positive implication. The illusion of a floating bra may be high fashion (for now), but - well, why? As mentioned above, too much like pasties.

Re: Clear strap, floating cup costumes - what do you think?
I think they can be really beautiful. I don't own one personally but they are very comfortable. I have always thought that if I ever do end up with one I will have optional fabric straps that I can snap over the clear ones to make it more versatile for different venues.

Re: Clear strap, floating cup costumes - what do you think?
I have a little "shrug" that i wear with mine when i want to be a little more covered up.... if i want the real (more revealing) mermaid effect, Eman Zaki made me some extra starfish to go over the shrug attachment snaps, so people would see the stars but not the snaps sewed onto the clear straps. :-)

Re: Clear strap, floating cup costumes - what do you think?
I made my own clear strap type costume
http://www.bhuz.com/forum/519424-post25.html
Firstly it is super comfy (and yes more fusion but I added flowers to it to make it more girly.) Second I am so snug in that sucker I tried jumping up and down with my torso inverted to see if the girls would spill out, no dice.
Third instead of clear plastic I used heavy guage wire (used for fishing or heavy beading) I then pulled and pulled and pulled the cups to see if there were any problems, again no dice. What made me feel secure was that I drilled holes into the hard cup bra (which was reinforced with buckram) and then oncethe cups were covered in fabric I threaded the wire through the cups.
I know it's a look that doesn't work on everyone but I like this version.
Oh, also my girls are not that big, I was very liberal with the padding during construction.
10-20-2009 03:46 PM #28Re: Clear strap, floating cup costumes - what do you think?
For those who can wear them, that's great. I find myself wondering more if the girls are going to pop out and less on focusing on the dance. So if any costume, regardless of what kind of style it is, distracts from a performer instead of enhancing her performance (I don't think guys have these kinds of costumes yet), then I think that it is a detriment.

Re: Clear strap, floating cup costumes - what do you think?
As a costumer I am not into the clear floating cups look. As a dancer I would never wear them because I am an ample D and and frightened of anyone "seeing through" any part of my bra. However I do love and make many costumes with clear neck straps or back straps. They are quite supportive and can add a nice touch to your costume if done tastefully.
