Skirt seam question - pics added!
I've been working on a lovely crazy rainbow fabric trumpet skirt, I have a total of 7 panels, with the two on each side of the skirt made of mesh. It fits beautifully now, but I'd end up with a seam running straight down the middle of the skirt front. ,f::
Is this a super big no-no? I don't have enough fabric to cut a larger front panel and for some reason I just didn't this time, but I do have another smaller panel to add. I could finish it with the extra panel so there's no front center seam, but it would be too big for me. So... is there any way to fix this or should I just chalk it up as a learning experience? There's no immediate need for the skirt - it's just fun.Last edited by MaryRaks; 10-25-2009 at 11:36 AM.

Re: Skirt seam question
pictures? are there slits? any way to embellish the front so it looks like you had the seam there on purpose?
generally, I don't think there is anything fundamentally wrong with having a seam there, tho it's not my preference. can you trim down the 2 front panels so you can add the last skinny panel without making it too big?

Re: Skirt seam question
Can you add the slim panel over the top of the others at the front, so it's a loose additional layer? Perhaps that would work if you added other layers elsewhere (could give a nice effect when spinning).

Re: Skirt seam question
Lara - I've thought about adding a skinny panel. I'll post pics tomorrow. The fabric is a bit wild and so it's hard to get a match on the pattern.
Jewel - I hadn't thought of that, but I'm not sure how it would look on this one. Definitely a good idea though... do you have pictures? I have another outfit in mind that this may work for perfectly if it looks like what I think it does.

Re: Skirt seam question
Here are some photos of the skirt as it is right now, I need to trim the top before I add a waistband and hem it. The colors are showing up really washed out for some reason, but it's actually quite bright. In the front photo you can see the black mesh that makes up the side panel, there's another one on the other side.

IMO, the vertical stripes of the pattern make the seams less noticeable. Personally, I'd leave it as is and have a skirt that fits.

I agree with aazura and mahira. It's fine as is. Next time you can do it differently if you don't like it.

Mary, I wouldn't worry about it. Sharifwear skirts have a seam right down the middle. The fabric is lovely and the audience is watching you not looking at the seams in your costume.
