Red costume bra: need your opinion
Hi,
I did the principal design now but haven't decided on one thing: underline the lower curve of the bra cup with silver pearls or not? Which side looks better? Should I add on one side or take it off again on the other?

Re: Red costume bra: need your opinion
Looks better without in my opinion. Also, are you going to put padding it eventually? As it gapes a little at the mo'
Nice colour, looks good on you.

Re: Red costume bra: need your opinion
definitely without. with the beading it looks like a separate cup pasted on some top. without beading it looks like one unit.

Re: Red costume bra: need your opinion
Thank you for your unanimous vote and for the compliments, it's uplifting for I'm through with this costume what my enthusiasm is concerned, for I need to be finished and still there are so many things!
I immediately thought the same like you when seeing it, especially when looking frontally, even though, when looking from the side, the curve does look nice somehow. I couldn't put more ornaments on the cups, for the svarovski chain is finished and this one is sold out in the warehouses around here, so, seen from the side it's maybe a little empty when I take off the beads?
Caroline, yes there'll be maybe some padding (I'm not finished with the costume yet) even though it's a little risky for it fits well. It looks bad for I lifted one arm, I'll try a bit of padding but not much or I'll need to use cellotape during performance, bleh!

Nice from the front but definately gaping to the point of showing nipple from the sides. Have you tried moving the straps over towards the center a tad? I'm not sure what the original bra (or cups) looked like but it looks as though the cups got rotated towards the center, with the original location for the shoulder strap now positioned at the top instead of the side.

No, I fixed the straps before the beading, the place is the best I could chose. Every possible hazard will be checked before performance of course, but this wasn't the question (yet). Nevertheless thank you for being attentive!

Re: Red costume bra: need your opinion
I think it feels a bit unfinished without something, but when you have the trim following the underwire, it makes it look like a lower-end Turkish costume. Are you planning to put fringe on it? Maybe if you brought some fringe chunks down from the side and lower stones, or from the bottom edge of the lower swirl, it would give you some vertical interest to take up the emptiness. Another option might be to run a horizontal or diagonal swirl off the side piece to fill the bare space at the outer part of the cup. The minimalist look can be tough to find a balance--you want it to look like a complete design from all sides, but not busy and over styled.

Ah of course, this costume will be performed in a "to be continued"-state, I knew from the start that I could only make the "basic" thing until november...yes there's plenty I could think of, yet.
But you all agree that I should take off the beads underneath? I think so, too, and I will do it now!

I think padding will help, but also you could attach a wire along the edge of the cups, starting from where the cups meet and until the beginning of the bra band (where the strap ends). All of Bella bras have thin wires along the edges so that you could adjust them in a bit. Forgot to add, the wire is under the lining of course.

Re: Red costume bra: need your opinion
I definately agree that the bra needs padding. The side views you've provided gap by at least an inch from what I can tell. Most sewing stores have those half-cup pads that add oomph without making you completely spill over, but will add nice shape to both you and the bra cup.
That being said, you can also use wire (craft wire, just dip the ends in a rubber coating like PlastiDip to avoid hurting yourself) or use plastic boning.

No beads and add padding, I can almost see nipples. Looks like it can be a very uplifting style whn it is filled a bit more.

Re: Red costume bra: need your opinion
So if you've taken off the lining on one bra - maybe a chain dangling down slightly asymmetrically? :)

Re: Red costume bra: need your opinion
Hi Dina. I took it off, because I felt the same as everybody else here.
Yes I like asymmetry too. The curls of the svarovski are an S plus a single curl but on each cup they lie differently. It's not very obvious but that's due to the design consisting solely of a single line with rhinestones like exclamation marks...
Fringe will be added yet. Loops, there has to be a lot of silver yet for overall there'll be a lot of red (skirt plus sleeves). The material is very glitzy though, so it's effective enough and doesn't look lifeless.
Hm, but on the bra...I actually like fringeless bras...,r:;
I'm almost finished beading the rims of the belt...finally!

Re: Red costume bra: need your opinion
I don't like the underwire-outline either. It makes it look too much like underwear.
If you really feel like you need some beading in that area, perhaps you could add a swirl that beings on the side of the cup, goes over the wire, and ends on the side bands. In my opinion, carrying the design from the cups to the sides helps unify the costume.
