Chiffon skirt and/or Full skirt talk
I'm totally into Chiffon skirts as of late. Not sure why. I guess it's because I am making a circle skirt and well, lycra's super easy, but I am just a little burned out by it. Please post pictures of your favorite chiffon skirts! (or full skirts really, doesn't have to be chiffon).
I'll start:

(I want this costume!)

Here's a double layer pink chiffon. I just sold it along with the bedlah I'm wearing to Luludances. I love the swish of it.

And this is one I made myself.

Re: Chiffon skirt and/or Full skirt talk
I love Bella's chiffon skirts. They're beautifully "sculpted" and have a lot of visual interest, with all the streamers and such. I also like the Pharaonics "Christina" skirts, because they're the best of both worlds.
I can't believe I'm drifting away from Lycra, too....but I'm learning that not all chiffon is necessarily evil ..l;,

I think my absolute favorite is the layered skirts with the Pharonics Butterfly costumes. Looooooove those!

I never have liked the tight lycra ones. Maybe I'm just kind of old school.

Re: Chiffon skirt and/or Full skirt talk
I love, love, love full skirts! I can't rock circle skirts too well, though. I usually need something fitted to upper or mid thigh and then flared for the fullness.... like the orange pharaonics that's being passed on to one lucky lady ;)

I love the look of chiffon, but I have issues with it being so see-thru. I'm always worried someone's going to see my underwear.

Any one know how to make those curly streamers that Bella has on her skirts?

Re: Chiffon skirt and/or Full skirt talk
I have never had one in my hands, so I can't say for sure, but I was thinking that they are strips of fabric finished on the edge with a serger to get that curly texture.

I am a full chiffon skirt whore!! I have over 10 pharonix arabesque skirts in my closet and several of the Bella skirts with the streamers. LOVE them!! I love layering and experimenting with colous combinations! I ADORE the skirts on the butterfly costumes too!

Re: Chiffon skirt and/or Full skirt talk
my pink bella that I'm selling has those curly strips... one of my seamstress friends back in Houston said that it's *probably* achieved by taking thin strips of fabric and stretching them a bit when you serge them, but i don't sew worth a darn so i couldn't tell you for sure!
my dance mama had a belt made for her out of lycra and she wanted thin strips of lycra 'fringe' hanging from it with sequins sewn on.... when the seamstress made it she stretched the lycra out while she was sewing on the sequin trim with a sewing machine. they came out curly-twirly too!

Layers girlfriend, layers. If you have enough layers of chiffon, no-ones gonna see nutin'. I wear a troupe costume that has chiffon harems, two chiffon under-skirts, and a georgette dress affair over the whole thing. No-one can see a thing except multiple flying skirts (which is the whole idea!)!

Re: Chiffon skirt and/or Full skirt talk
Well, there are many versions of "chiffon", so you have to be careful with what you use. I have an LRose chiffon skirt and it is VERY see-through, so of course I have paired it with an underskirt (heavier georgette). Right now JoAnn Fabrics has "costume chiffon" that is thick and is perfect for underskirts. Just wish they had it in more colors, especially since it is about $2 a yard on sale.

I love Chiffon! It's great for the stage. Light, flowy, sheer. Chiffon is very vintage. The secret is to cut the belt low enough and have some longer fringe. Some clips!

Yep, I love the old school belly dance look with chiffon and circle skirts....just wore a circle skirt with chiffon harems to a gig a couple of days ago and it was great! Felt very bellydancer-ish!!

Yes, pretty much like that...mine has 2 slits up the front over each leg....in fact, it is the first skirt I made 29 years ago when I started bellydancing! Still rocks the casbah!!

Re: Chiffon skirt and/or Full skirt talk
when i went to bella's recently i had a look at those -- been wondering forever too :D anyhoo, the one i looked like, the strips were basically arcs of circles (think banana-shape!) with sequined edges. gravity does the rest by pulling it down in a way that makes it spirally.

Re: Chiffon skirt and/or Full skirt talk
I also have a chiffon skirt from L. Rose, hence my statement of "It's too see through!" for my tastes. I bought it with the intention of using it with a teal costume I made, until I got the skirt and discovered I -had- to wear something under it, or people were going to see clear as day what sort of undies I was wearing. ..cr.:
I ended up making a pair of harem pants under them.
