Tanya, the pearls look exactly like a pirate's chest of jewels! They just look amazing with all those lovely pearls and others. I love the arrangement!

A non-belly dance project. A crazy quilt made from fabric I was using for costume bags earlier this summer. This is my first quilt, and it is to be a gift for Bahaia's baby girl.

Now, I've never quilted before, so if anyone has any advice for a novice quilter with next to no quilting experience or supplies, I'd be grateful!

ETA: Sorry this is blurry! I'll try to get better pics later.

Congrats on making your first costume! I can't see details in the photo you posted, but overall you look radiant and very happy to wear it.

I've been working on this slowly for a little while. I cut up an old formal for the bra and belt and found the skirt fabric at joanns. I wanted something simple, b/c I feel like some costumes overwhelm me.

I put some rhinestone chain trim on the bra and belt, but they are not very visible. I think that I'm going to look for something else. I would also like to put a bit of fringe on the center of the bra. Maybe on the belt also, but not sure where yet.

I started a thread on making a circle skirt and this is the (mostly) finished product. I really like how it came out. I still need to hem the bottom, since I just fraychecked it for my performance.

It was very satisfying to have a costume that is so ME. Still needs some more refining, but I think that it is a good first go! :)

I am making a Jacques Cartier costume for my 3rd grader-complete with beard.

One day I will return to my turquoise/black project...

I got a pretty costume in pieces... and after four days nearly without sleep it's going to be finished. Have to do a bit beading at the sleeves I think - and than it's ready for the comeback..

Next project is my naked dress to wear with a bedlah I'm also making.

This is the dress pre-beading and with a regular bra (and sash to cover my *ahem* under garments. Okay I fess up nude colored dance shorts.)
I used a Hanan dress to mock up the pattern, but it needed lots of tweaking.

I am apparently a total chicken. I think this dress looks fantastic on you Tanya. When I think of wearing something like it myself it makes me want to hide in the closet! Part of it may be that I don't like showing my legs (modesty is so strange, isn't it?) I've noticed the 'nude' costume trend seems to really be growing. Eshta has posted a few and I read through the thread devoted to them last week. I like the ones that are pale in color but couldn't actually be mistaken for nude. I don't want anybody thinking I'm nekkid!

I wear Capezio dance flesh colored fishnets, and when I wear it for performance I will wear it with a black cupped butt bedlah and black dance shorts. In essence I will be more dressed then when wearing a regular bedlah. I know the hesitation of nude costumes, but I couldn't pass this fabric up, it has a gold sheen (so you know I'm, not really naked.)

Maybe once I've seen you put it all together I will gather my courage for a similarly daring costume ..g.: That fabric is really cool!

Last night I made new back straps for my Hadia costume and covered my new (smaller) bra with the fabric that covered the old bra. It only took 2 hours and I did a way better job then I thought I would! YAY! I do wish I had made the back straps a bit thicker with some felt but I think that when I line them, I'll add an extra layer inbetween.

I just have to figure out where I want the jewels to go...one is located right on my nipple...dang!

I finally started working on my sage green costume. I finished putting the fabric on the bra and belt bases. I finished beading the edges last night and started putting on some jewels. I will take a pic this weekend when I get a chance. I am hoping to get a lot of it done this weekend.

I'm almost done with a total deconstruction/reconstruction of a vintage gold bra and belt. It was sewn with white dental floss which I didn't like, and lots of glue and fringe. I look off the gold lace sleeves and made real straps, took off almost everything I could and started over. I'll post a pic in a week or two on my teacher, whom I'm hoping to sell it to. Now I'm carefully working on fixing up the 1963 James Bond movie belt.

Since we're all costume/sewing junkies here, I wanted to risk de-railing the thread topic very briefly to ask what your wish list would be? Crystals? Fabric gift cards? A stock pile of Sugar Petal cups?

My mom is asking for a birthday/Christmas list and I guess I'm not feeling very greedy I'm sure I'll think of something later when it doesn't matter ..l;,

Feel free to PM me with your response so we can go back to everyone's awesome beadwork ..g.:

Meanwhile on the topic of sewing... I have been working on my brown velvet Eman-inspired costume. I should be able to take pictures tonight of the current progress. So far the bra just needs the covered straps sewn into place and a snap added to the under piece of the ribcage strap. The skirt has further to go. I need to put elastic in the waist and bead the hip. I have one arm skirt sewn, the other in pieces and both need beading. I may make a pair of gauntlets. Maybe two pair... one in brown velvet, one in sheer sparkly red/gold colored fabric with elastic ruching.

Anyone know how to make those 'leg laces' that Sandra has in one of her old Bella costumes? (img # 45. Sorry her site doesn't allow me to link directly)Those are just so darn cool looking...

I am almost (thank god) done with my peacock. Here it is from the front. Ignore the sash, it was a last minute grab since the one I am making has not been cooperative........ I didn't make the do rag just the headband. The base dress is from L Rose. And the back since you can't see it in the photo.
