I am excited to start the thread this month - my favorite thread on bhuz!
I am so inspired by all the wonderful creative work everyone posts.
I just finished this one. Calling it fruit loops.
It now has a double layer cape, looped sleeves, and 2 skirts.

Dude Eshta you're killing me! I still want to do that costuming workshop with you, but can't find anyone to do it with. :(

Re: What are you working on? - November 2009
These are my two new project for Fall/Winter. I'm also still working on a restoration of a Pink Pharonics.
The bases are made, now the beading begins. The pink will have gold beading and the black will have silver. I'm still on the fence as to whether or not the skirt is too busy on the black. It'll depend on how it looks once the beading is done. I may wear a plain black velvet with it instead.

November's just started, and I'm already envious of all of your creations!
I think I need to take a break since I had to do so much sewing for Halloween. I don't know if I'll be able to, but we'll see.

Taking apart!
Harvesting goodies for Surida and Qamar...
@ Nilaja Theesfield's Living Room Birthday Concert last year:

It's a lot faster to take apart, but certainly not as interesting...l;,
Aaaand for my last BD costume project, I'm working on these black silk flowers on top of the bright a$$ yellow:

Ooooh! I don't know how I feel about that burnt tangerine being deconstruted, Azhia. It's beautiful as is . . . looking forward to what it will become.
Love those black roses. Can you share your method?

Oooh . . . . The background for your photos is quite stunning, Shahla. I can see clear and orange/volcanoe stones along with silver paired with this design (as inspired by the beautiful foliage in your backyard).
Please keep us updated on your progress and also let us know when it's headed for the SWAP pages! ..g.:

Re: What are you working on? - November 2009
It's already done and taken apart. Line's getting the peach/orange/gold beads from it, as well as the velvet; Surida's getting the rhinestone rondelles and the amazing flatback squares. Costume has been put out to pasture. ..c::
Method for making the black silk roses? I purchased them already made. Cost pretty pennies so I figured I'd keep for my own and make one last wtf costume. ..l;,

36th-39th streets between 8th and Broadway for fabric (go check out spandex world and then go across the street to haggle for the same fabric! ..l;,
Beads and findings are on 6th avenue in the same area. Make sure you peek into M&J Trimming but don't buy (way too expensive) instead I take mental pictures of what I like and find it in the stores that let me haggle more.
Can you tell I like haggling? ,r:;

Tanya, that's looking great! I love the lines of the bra, especially the diamond shape in the middle.

Re: What are you working on? - November 2009
I got derailed from the silky plum I was working on in October because this sparkly mauve fabric I got from Talia on SWAP was haunting me. I put together a sketch of what I wanted it to look like, gathered my materials and have been beading and sewing since Halloween. I'm going to try to make a mermaid skirt like Shahla's to go with it. If anyone knows of where I can get an ivory/rose half circle veil to go with, I'd sure appreciate it! Here's the progression:

Obviously, there's lot more to do. I'm aiming for a Nov 20th finish date ..g.:

Re: What are you working on? - November 2009
Qamar;
My favorite stores in New York garment district are M&J Trims, Joyce Trims, Toho Shoji, NY Beads, Phoenix (all for trims and beads). 6th Ave & 56th-58th
B&J Fabric is amazing as well for cross dyed silks. (near 7th ave and 38th 2nd floor)
You can find them in some of the other fabric stores as well (40th-38th streets between 7th and 8th Ave)
Have fun! Wish I could go shopping with you, I was there last month, and spent way to much money in a whirlwind of about 4 hours.

Re: What are you working on? - November 2009
Wow... amazing progress on everything! I love how all the projects are looking.
Manon - that's stunning!
I haven't had time to finish the crazy rainbow skirt, but the only thing left is the hemming and finishing armbands and a headband. These plans are being slightly derailed as I haven't even cut the burgundy velvet I plan on wearing to a gig um... TOMORROW! SO... wish me luck as tonight after class I'm going to be sewing like a madwoman. lol It's just too chilly for chiffon.
