the different varieties of l rose trumpet skirts
Hi all,
I'm considering buying an l rose trumpet skirt, but I'm not sure which one to get. I love full skirts, but need fitted tops.
The regular trumpet skirt looks to be a bit too tight for my taste, but with the slit it looks nice. I'm just not sure if it's full enough for me at the bottom.
The skirt with one super deluxe gore looks looser and fuller... does anyone have that one? Do you have pics of it in mid twirl to share?
I really like the super deluxe skirt with the big gores all over, but I don't know if that's waaaay too full, or if it would be the perfect skirt for me. Who has it and loves it? .... or has some other feeling about it?
Please share your experiences with me. Thanks!

Re: the different varieties of l rose trumpet skirts
My student group has costumes with various variations of the circle skirt.
The different flare styles only affect the fullness of the lower flared part of the skirt. The tightness through the hip depends upon the hip measurements you send in.
Sorry, I don't know how the basic model twirls, but the super deluxe ones are very nice.

Re: the different varieties of l rose trumpet skirts
sorry, to clarify, the regular one doesn't flare until the knee. I'm thinking that I'd want it to flare above the knee to get the right amount of fullness.
I was just wondering if full-skirt loving people find it sufficient in this style with the slit added.

I absolutely love both the regular and the delux styles. Both look really nice when you spin. And, give you a wonderful line.
I've never gotten the super delux because I thought it would be too full for my short frame. The bottom of the regular delux is quite full enough to me -a full circle I believe.
A side split will give the bottom more of a swing also.

Hi There! Here is my skirt. I believe it is a classic with a knee slit. I absolutely LOVE it!

Sorry, no twirly pics...

Re: the different varieties of l rose trumpet skirts
Hi, sorry I don't have pics to show you, but I have the L.Rose "deluxe trumpet" skirt and love it because it has that one bigger gore in the back so it's not so tight around my butt. On me, it has the look of a regular trumpet skirt.
I also have one "super deluxe" L.Rose trumpet skirt in black halo lycra and it looks and feels very full and is very twirly from the knees down, closer to a circle skirt. It does not have a slit, it has a double row of cutouts on each hip and matching peek-a-boo gauntlets. . It is as close as I get to a circle skirt these days.
I think if you are wanting a very full skirt, go for the super deluxe - you can do a slit and it would be gorgeous and lush.

Re: the different varieties of l rose trumpet skirts
I'm tall and the super deluxe trumpet skirt (no slit) looks very nice on me but I don't think I would describe it as "full" as in a circle skirt. It is a LOT of material below the knee. Mine is lycra and I would think the super deluxe would be very heavy in velvet. It makes a lovely line when I twirl but a slit would definitely be an advantage (but I have ugly knees)!

Re: the different varieties of l rose trumpet skirts
I have both, being narrow hipped, I prefer the super deluxe as I think it gives me a nicer line.
It's marvelously full and flares beautifully in a spin.
However, if you are in any doubt, or think you'd like variations (I got the super deluxe in a custom order before it was standard or offered) call Lora, she's wonderful to deal with and will work with you on a custom design.- A deeply desired goal gives context to present experience... I have the same exact skirt that Andalee has (you look mahvelous, Andalee!) and it twirls somewhat when I dance. It's not the same as a full skirt but it does twirl from the knees down.

Re: the different varieties of l rose trumpet skirts
Being short, I have the same worry as Audie does having the super deluxe make me look even shorter. I think I'll try the deluxe with a slit since it sounds to be just what I'm looking for... but I'm still wavering with the super deluxe as well. I'm pretty well proportioned in an hourglass shape (a wide one, lol!), so I think I could make either work for me.
Thanks for sharing your opinions!
And Andalee, I second Fotia... you look mahvelous!Last edited by xodinahox; 11-03-2009 at 01:41 PM.

Here's a recent photo of me doing a spin in my regular L. Rose trumpet skirt with a slit.

I have a regular trumpet with a very high skirt in the metalskin lycra. I love it but wish I had gotten the delux gore in the back for a bit more movement. It's quite fitted to the knee's and then flares out where I would rather have the flare start a bit higher.

Re: the different varieties of l rose trumpet skirts
I am only 5'1" and LOVE the super deluxe. Makes you feel like a princess when you spin! (You can feel the weight of the fabric thrashing around, LOL.)
When you're not spinning, the extra fabric in the super deluxe is heavy enough to drape in such a way that I don't think it makes you look very significantly shorter - due to the weight, it definitely does not "bell out" like a traditional circle skirt. It might be the ticket if you like dancing with a circle skirt but want to minimize the hip (as much as clingy stretch fabric will minimize anything, haha).
Since you have some doubt and if you want to play it safe, you can probably count on being happy with the regular deluxe, but the super IS a little extra fun. Warning: E.S.M.O. (Extra Spinning May Occur)
On the other hand, I also have a regular (non-deluxe) trumpet skirt, it seems to be a little more sophisticated look - and when I do spin around, I'm not conscious of the skirt like I am with the super deluxe, I'm only aware of my dancing in general. The slits on the regulars tend to spread apart and be a little revealing on many dancers (a reason to be REALLY careful how you wash these), I see lots of girls using a chiffon drape there (I prefer a drape of sheer mesh stretch net since it pairs knit-with-knit, but I've made them myself, not sure if LRose does).
As for the placement of the slit and the beginning of the flare on your body, my skirt was purchased used from a taller dancer and I hemmed it only at the top and kept the full flare, so my flare begins a little above my knee (it probably began near the middle or bottom of the knee on the original owner). As suggested by another bhuzzer, I'm sure LRose will work with you on it - this makes me wonder how they figure out the proportions vis-a-vis height, I think I'll give them a call myself one of these days when I order one directly.

P.S. I hope you someday can get all three!Last edited by Devora; 11-03-2009 at 11:49 PM.

Thanks, Devora! Your post really helped me a lot.
I have a couple of sharqi pieces with several spins and turns in them, so a super deluxe might be the ticket for those ;)
I will eventually get a regular trumpet skirt... I just don't need it quite yet.

Re: the different varieties of l rose trumpet skirts
I think I can help answer this. I had a peek-a-boo trumpet (basically the same as the classic style) and the gores began right below my knee. I called them and asked about it when I ordered another one and they said that for skirt lengths below 38" they use 18" gores and for lengths above 38" they use 20" gores. 38", which was the size I ordered for my first trumpet skirt is the in between size and they happened to make mine with 18" gores. So for the second skirt I ordered I asked for 20" gores and they work much better on my body type. I think these 2 gore lengths are the way all of their trumpet skirts except the super deluxe work. I would love to try the super deluxe skirt with the 24" gores sometime, but I really love my deluxe skirt with 20" gores.this makes me wonder how they figure out the proportions vis-a-vis height

You're welcome, xodinahox!
Mintaka, thanks for the info on LRose's standard gore sizing-interesting and good to know in advance of talking to them about placing an order.

I have seen the super deluxe in action, (by the lovely Shoshanna herself) and I want one soooo bad. I just can't decide what fabric. By your explanation of where you want the flare to start and the feel of a full skirt but more shapely, then that is the one for you.
