Pushups?
Hi,
The other day, someone told me that if women do regular pushups it can make them infertile.
I have my own ideas about this, but wanted to see what others think.

Re: Pushups?
That sounds like an Old Wives' tale or something. Like if you swim in the ocean while on your period you'll attract sharks or if you swallow a watermelon seed, you'll have a baby lol. I don't know if it's true or not. But I've never heard of that and it sounds really strange. Hmmmm.

Re: Pushups?
bawhahahaha. That is the funniest thing I've ever heard. At my fittest, back when I was still taking tae kwon do, I was able to do one arm pushups, on my fingertips and on my knuckles. I haven't had kids yet but the several black belts who kicked my butt in pushups, had a bunch between the both of them. that is seriously the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

Re: Pushups?
..l;,..l;,..l;,..l;,..l;,..l;,..l;,..l;,

People actually think this for real?
Dear lord.
I wish it were true, because it would be the best birth control ever!
But, uh.... well, I've done push ups regularly most of my life, and I have two children.
How on EARTH are people SO stupid? These people VOTE? How do they function in every day life? This explains some deplorable parenting going on. This explains how/why people think Fox News is the end all and be all of "the facts". This explains paranoia and fear about "them Ay-rabs" and other "furriners, stealin my 'merkin jobs." Gah! Ignorance and stupidity!

Re: Pushups?
wow, it would be kinda nice ... that would be hella lot easier than all the trouble me and hubby go through as it is
... sadly, no truth at all ... wonder where she got the idea from?? ... the only thing exercise related I've ever heard of (outside of drugs) that could affect fertility would be when it is taken to such extremes between diet and exercise as to cause amenorrhea ... then there are questions of what affects that may have on fertility (along with other health issues) ... but doing pushups regularly is certainly not anywhere close to enough to even approach that danger ,r:;

Re: Pushups?
umm - the only infertility I've heard of related to exercise is if you exercise/diet to the point of having not enough body fat for your body to menstruate- at which point, you may have other issues too! Just push ups ain't gonna do it. In fact, I think it is rather important for women in child bearing years to do push ups, it really helps avoid pregnancy-induced kyphosis (excessive curvature of the upper spine)
(from the push up queen, expecting baby #4 in another 5 weeks... & I can beat most of the guys at the family reunion this summer in a push up contest, even at 4 months pregnant!)

Re: Pushups?
thats crazy! unfortunately i've heard similar comments from my own family. They think any muscle tone on females is disgusting. Now that i've started weight lifting, they keep insisting that i'll mess up my uterus with squats or build up too much testoterone. Sillies :(

Re: Pushups?
Well yeah, that is wacko. Maybe the source was influenced somehow by the fact that in cases when women exercise to the extreme on a regular basis (I mean, ALOT, e.g. several hours a day or intense training for competitions), it DOES sometimes affect their menstrual cycle and cause them to have shorter or missed periods?

Re: Pushups?
yeah - that was my guess as well ... it's just such a HUGE JUMP from that to just doing pushups regularly causes it ... it's weird to think how misinformation can begin to spread ...

I figured that was the case, but I wasn't quite sure what to say.
