What should I make with this crazy fabric?
I found this vertigo-inspiring stretch mesh on clearance the other day, so I bought the whole bolt of it (10 yards).

It's a lot more vibrant in person than it looks in the photo. I am so in love with the crazy print and all the fun colors. I'm almost overwhelmed by the possibilities....a classic case of "paralysis by analysis," LOL.
It makes me want to make something inspired by Didem's multicolor Bellas, as seen in this thread:
http://www.bhuz.com/forum/fitness-be...umes-hoot.html
But of course, I couldn't make anything that elaborate because I am not that talented. I'm still trying to find it in my to finish my first two-piece costume, which I started probably more than a month ago.
Does anyone have any ideas? What color(s) do you think might look best with this? Hot pink? Turquoise? Orange? Red? Hmmm....

Re: What should I make with this crazy fabric?
you'd be amazed how intricate it could look if u made it into a bra belt or bra and skirt set. just bead along a couple of the crazy patterns and it adds enough pizazz without having to do all that much (as opposed to trying to come up with some sort of pattern out of solid, 1-tone colored fabric)

Three panel skirt! Add a bedlah - and you can go with many colours here - and you will look BEAUTIFUL, Darling! Layer over one 3 panel skirt of any of those colours and it'll be amazing!

Re: What should I make with this crazy fabric?
Love!!!!
This is a very different fabric, but I'm inspired by how a motif was used from the patterned fabric and made into appliques. And I really like the solid color fabric mixed with the patterned to break it up. https://www.dahlal.com/default.aspx?n=1&hs=kashmira
I've made three costumes with patterned fabric and made a bra, belt, and skirt each time so that I could wear the bra and belt with a plain skirt, if I wanted to. For my candy costume (on the right on the first page of my website) I've always worn it once with a different skirt because all three pieces together are just so crazy and fun.

Re: What should I make with this crazy fabric?
ooooooooo all the pretty colors! So many possibilities. You picked good!!!
All above mentioned ideas are great. But if you're pressed for time,(and you did mention you had simple sewing abilities) just make a skirt, sleeves, headband, and anklet. Keep beading simple (use design in fabric),or pair with a very simple solid colored bedlah. I would put a solid color skirt with it if it's sheer......You're gonna have fun with this one.....

As for a color of bedlah or set I would choose black or purple because the fabric stands on its own. if you put anything as exciting as the fabric they will compete and the effect will fail. Choose a subtle simple bra and belt in a solid color but something that will not overwhelm.

Re: What should I make with this crazy fabric?
I third the suggestion for a baladi dress! Well, a tight gelabaya with matching bra. I made one myself out of crazy paisley and just love it. I get lots of compliments on it.
Let's see if I can post a link here:
If not, here it is in slide.com (2nd photo): [ame="http://www.slide.com/r/pHOurF3F6z__ZMlwYTM3zj_EdpAD6oQv"]Jewel's Performance Ga by info@@AMEPARAM@@http://widget-84.slide.com/p1/1297036692690944644/lt_t017_v000_s0un_f00/images/xslide1.gif@@AMEPARAM@@84@@AMEPARAM@@1297036692690 944644@@AMEPARAM@@lt_t017_v000_s0un_f00[/ame]
Ed: Gah! It's posting my whole slideshow, how embarassing! Oh well, may as well put myself out there!

Re: What should I make with this crazy fabric?
a nice assymetrical bra/belt or bra/skirt.. pick a matching solid fabric to go with it.. but with any of these suggestions I think it would look great!

Re: What should I make with this crazy fabric?
How have I not heard this phrase before?!? It perfectly sums up what makes my mom, sister, and me ridiculously slow in making decisions where we're allowed even an ounce of creativity.
That fabric looks like it wouldn't be too stiff to make really pretty ruffles. You could get an L Rose trumpet skirt with the slit in magenta, purple, turquoise, or even black and add the ruffles along the slit sides and bottom hem. Belly Dance Costumes | Belly Dance Store.com: gallery You could also get a matching bra top and arm bands and accent them with the fabric for a quick way to cover a sturdy bra. You'll still be left with a ton of fabric, though. I, too, love the multi-print bellas. Good luck!

Re: What should I make with this crazy fabric?
I think with that fabric you could make a simple bra and skirt, which wouldn't be much work. Then just add some beading/appliques in some spots along the pattern. I know you said it's mesh, so I'm not sure how heavy it is for a skirt. You could add beading to the bottom so it swishes nicely as you turn, or add an underskirt for weight and modesty if the mesh is too sheer. or have like a turquoise skirt and put the mesh underneath.
The pattern speaks for itself so I don't think you need elaborate/intricate beadwork. I love it!
