Thread: My new serger

I have the best Fiance ever. He bought me a new serger for my Birthday this month. I have an appointment with the sewing shop tomorrow to learn how to use it. I can't wait. It's an Elna. I can't remember the model number, but it's a really nice machine.

I'm hoping it will make sewing skirts and such much better with a nice finished seam. It also does rolled hems so chiffon skirts had ought to look nice with them finished like that.

I have nothing but admiration for those of you who make their own costumes. I am also in awe of how sophisticated your knowledge is because I never even heard of a serger and realize how much I lack in this department. Hope you post new pix after you learn how to use this and how your costumes turn out after using it.

Oh, lucky you! I've always wanted a serger. They give everything a very professional looking finish. Maybe Santa Claus will bring me one . . . Have fun!

Sergers are the gift of the gods for seamstresses I could not live w/ out mine. I am the serger goddess.

I had my serger lesson yesterday. Now that I know how to thread it and adjust it, I can't wait to start on a project. I think I'll try working with it tomorrow or Saturday. It's going to take a little practice, but I can already see that I'll get a lot of use out of it.

I just made my first trumpet skirt with the serger. OMG, it's so much easier with the serger than a regular machine. And the rolled hem, is a total breeze with the serger. Wow, wow, wow.

Congratulations on your serger and trumpet skirt. I know how exciting it is. My dear sister gave me her old serger a year and a half ago. I, who have been sewing for 45 years, was too intimidated to give it a try. She finally came to visit last week, showed me how to thread it, and now I am a serging fool. To think of all the costumes I have made that would have been so much easier with the serger. I went back over all my chiffon circle skirts and redid their edges.
