    Desperately padding a bra

    Hi, everyone!
I spent the last couple of hours trying to make a beautiful cheetah Eman bra fit my baby girls, but I'm not getting the right fit ,f:: ... The cups are too big and even with extra padding I think I'm gonna look like I have alien boobs
I bought this costume from Dahlal a few months ago, but I never danced in it yet, because I was aware of the time it would take me to fix this bra... But now I really wanted to wear it!
    Any suggestion?
    Thanks in advance!

    Ana

Are they the "Dina style" or "demi cup" (as Dahlal calls them)? Can you post a photo?

I recommend starting the padding on the lower part of the sides of the cups and keep adding from there toward the inside of the cups until you get the look you want. You may need to completely fill the cups with padding to make them work (which will then push the "real you" up and into the center).

Of course, make sure the band is tight enough and the straps (if movable) are in the right place to get the right fit.

make sure you do NOT pad with gel. i repeat, DO NOT PAD WITH GEL!
i made that mistake on the first bra i made. luckily it leaked BEFORE i had put the good fabric on it, and i was able to get the gel out with dish soap. if you have gel pads you can surgically remove the gel from the rest and replace it with layers of felt.
sorry, that's all i got. good luck!

I hate to say it, but this is why I gave up on Emans (and most of the newer Egyptian costumes) ,f::..cr.:

Bras with softer cups, like Bellas, take more kindly to being stuffed. I find that if I fill a hard bra like an Eman with padding the same way I would a Bella (or anything else), the cup just stands away from my body instead of conforming to my shape. That is, unless I do extensive amounts of surgery on the straps and possibly add additional straps. Then, there's that unsightly space between cups, if you've got a Dina bra. Oy! Too much work.

If you REALLY love your costume and can't part with it, you might appreciate this blog I wrote, with my favorite tips for fixing pesky Eman bras:

You mean, if I decide not to sell it? ..l;,
This costume is amazing, but a little bit big for me. I bought it because I fell in love with it, and it was stated as a B cup... But I'm pretty sure this is about a D cup instead!

    Re: Desperately padding a bra

I move the straps in and add the pads from Jo-Ann Fabrics that add a cup size. I usually have to cut some of it off to make it fit the bra; then I angle it inward like you'd see on a pushup bra. Play around with it to find the best positioning before you sew the lining back up. I also tack it to the sides of the bra so it doesn't move around. Seriously, all of my bras are completely filled and flat on the inside! Make sure everything is tight--if not, the bra will tend to stand away from the body. You can also add that grippy carpet or shelf liner stuff to the inside top of the cups to keep the boobs perched up....mine tend to slip down as I dance :P

I have a bra shaped like this (actually Emans of a couple different shapes) and have no weird shape issues. Hope it helps! If not, post a pic of you in the bra and maybe we can get a better idea of where the fit issues are coming from. Depending on how much you want to make it work (and how skilled/comfortable you are with a needle and thread), you can reduce the cup size. I made an Eman about a cup size smaller--it involved deconstruction, scissors, wire cutters, and a lot of nervousness on my part, but it did work. Actually I'd like to go back and make it a wee bit smaller near the armpit area... *adds to neverending to-do list*

Take a set of shoulder pads (I have a bag of at least twenty different sets because not all shoulder pads are created equal & neither are bras), fold them in half and insert them underneath and slightly toward the outer edge of the bra. The folded edge goes down & out toward the side. Tack in place. Might require more than one set. The goals is to lift the girls up and toward the middle. Good luck.

Hope this made a little sense, but probably not.

This is what I use to do! I do it with shoulder pads! But the problem right now is that the cups are too big and I have to put 2 shoulder pads in each. This makes me look like a sex doll ..c::

Well, I think it's done with shoulder pads... I look a bit weird with big breast. It looks like I put silicone implants... .w.:

What shape of shoulder pads do you use? The kind with one straight edge and a rounded top? If so, do you fold them lengthwise or sidewise? I am having trouble picturing it. Thanks.

I remember that costume on Dahlal's site! I hope you make it work, Ana -- it's a fabulous costume!!!!! (I use shoulder pads sometimes as well...)

You could try this: Cut off the bottoms of a pair of panty hose (or use knee-highs) and fill them with uncooked rice). They make a very pliable padding that will adapt to your body. You can put them in after you put your bra on, and you don't need to permanently attach them. This REALLY works for most bra shapes! (plain white rice is best, not long-grained or fancy types, lol! John bought some gourmet rice in a box once and I was desperate, so I used it.....he wasn't very happy, haha!)

Rounded top ones... Now I think it's gonna work. I'm not going to touch anything else, otherwise I'll damage the costume ..l;,

Question about bra padding in general - how do you pad the bra without causing the quadraboob effect?

    Re: Desperately padding a bra

Having to learn by trial and error the best solution I have found is to take 2 sets of silicone bra inserts (found at macy's for me) and to fold one over onto itself to make a clamshell shape then fold the other over it in the other direction then tack them together followed by whip stitching them onto the bra lining. Some times I offset the first off the second a little towards a diagonal to cover more of the lower side of the bra cup. Mind you all of this has made me consider either surgery or custom much more but for the meantime it gives me quite a look. I am stalking this thread though for even better ideas as I perfect the "yes it really is me look" Hee..Hee..
