What Are You Working On? December 2009
I have been continuing to tinker with my brown velvet Eman inspired costume. My student troupe has an upcoming circus themed performance that we've chosen to incorporate some slightly steampunk elements in our costumes for. I've drafted a pattern for our top hats and built mine as an example.
I also created a pattern for a cravat (I think that's what this is called) to match ..l;, It fills up the collar bone to bust point expanse rather nicely ..g.:
I've also continued to bead the skirt and am getting ready to put in my very first cutout! I'll post when I've got the whole thing put together- perhaps after dress rehearsal.

Re: What Are You Working On? December 2009
I'm working on a black, green, and silver costume. I've finished cutting out the belt form (Front and back) and have finished the trim on the belt pieces (black sequins and silver seed beads). This weekend I plan on at least cutting out the felt and velvet for the appliques and I'd like to start "coloring" them in with the multiple varieties of green beads I've accumulated over the past three weeks.
Can't wait for my silver fringe to get here. This belt is taking forever, I don't even want to know how long the bra is going to take me. It's a good thing I really like doing them.

RioDancer,
I love the color choices. Its like a sepia toned photograph and so much more subtle than some of the bright black, white, and red vaudevillian colors you often see with steampunk. can't wait to see the finished product.

Re: What Are You Working On? December 2009
Thanks! I love browns with my super pale skin tone. Hadn't thought of the sepia toned photo angle ..g.: My students have green, red, blue and purple costumes. We should all have a very gem-tone feel. Assuming I get permission from everyone I'll post a group picture when we're all gussied up! My next debate is the specifics for the makeup and hair. I have some ideas but I need to sit down and actually try some of them out to see if the picture in my head works in reality ..l;,

Re: What Are You Working On? December 2009
I'm working on a purple belt project. You may have seen it in previous months. I got a lot of good stitching time in over Thanksgiving, but haven't been doing much since then.

I also just finished making costumes for my student troupe. I made a choli, overskirt and black circle skirt for myself, plus I made 2 cholis for my students. They turned out so perfect! I'll post a pic when I get a chance.

Re: What Are You Working On? December 2009
I am working on a sahar I bought from Damiena.
Loved the colour , but I am not a ruffle person.

I removed the ruffles and I added 3 kinds of swarovski crystals in fire opal and sun colours on bra and skirt.
I also removed a few of the big beads on one the side of the slit to see how it looked. I will leave the big beads in the hip area and the bra but will remove the big beads along the slit. My goal is to finish this before the end of december .

Palmier, I love the modifications you've done to that orange Sahar. I think the clean lines will look much better. (I'm not a ruffle person either).

I am in a sea of pink! I have 3 pink costumes in the works. One might be spoken for already. I will post pics when done. Here are 2 of them. Just the beginning....

Re: What Are You Working On? December 2009
i've been busy chopping up the naked dress i bought from amartia...the beading went through the bra and omg was it ever a ton of work to get off...so high from fray check! i've made a black mesh underskirt, slit the skirt, removed beading from the bottom of the skirt.
This is how it came

Under skirt

carnage

i've got to finish this baby before sunday at 7pm. i still need to cover the new bra with the top fabric, sew in the under skirt, make and sew on ruffles and bead edges.

Two circle skirts, 4 bras (3 of them with coin drapes), 4 endless-wave pants, 6 tiered skirts, 3 tunics.

Here is the costume I made for my student troupe. We each have one in a different color. I was feeling ambitious, so I made my circle skirt too. ;)

Oh and I have this fabric and I am wondering what I could make with it. Any thoughts? I have matching crushed pane in that beige-y-brown color:

Re: What Are You Working On? December 2009
I'm working on transforming a turquoise and black set I bought here.
Some of the fabric on the bra needs to be replaced, I'm doing that now.
I started with the belt. Here is before and after.

Re: What Are You Working On? December 2009
Oooh Eshta I love the purple and black one with lace.
The most sewing I'm doing on costumes right now is basic hook adjustments and taking in the sides of a cute little saidi dress.

Re: What Are You Working On? December 2009
I make my Christmas gifts every year so the costume has taken a back place for the moment. I am making a ton of woven fabric coil bowls this year. Here is one of them. Sorry the first two are a little dark.

I hope to finish Ezma's vintage alterations and Farasha's coin set in the next few weeks so I can be free in the new year. I am waiting for more coins, so this weekend belongs to Ezma and DVDs.

Re: What Are You Working On? December 2009
I just made six double layer circle skirts for me & my students to wear in a student showcase show tomorrow night (Queen of the Last Minute, that's me!).
Wish us luck, we've only had 7 weeks to work on the routines and there are a whole stack of brand new beginners taking part!

Re: What Are You Working On? December 2009
So about 7 years ago I had a costuming business "Aradia Originals" I beaded belts and bra's and sold them, well, I have like 8 costumes I started and never finished once I got busy with traveling. This one is for myself, and I'm finally going to finish it if it kills me!!
