Headbands etc
I hate the headbands that come with costumes. They never stay on, even when I pin them. I do really like the look of headbands though and I figure since it's holiday season, now would be a good time to stock up on sparkly, rhinestone hair accessories. Except, I don't really know where to do this.
What are your favorite sources o pretty hair accessories? Brick and mortar or internet works.
Thanks!

*ahem* Latifa's Rhinestones... retail swap meet. No headbands, but lots of barrettes, clips, and bobby pins.

Latifa does indeed have lots of wonderful sparklies!
Other options- ebay, Claires, The Icing, even the bridal section of Michaels and Joanns often have rhinestone hair accessories.

Nilaja's Calico Garden (she's got a post in the Retail Swap Meet) has the most beautiful feather/jeweled hair accessories. I could spend a fortune on them!

I have different lines of headbands ..... flowers, exotic yarns, silks, holiday, etc. Thinking of opening a retail site here on Bhuz .... and getting started on Etsy. Whatcha ladies think -- would there be a market for them here on Bhuz? (If you are interested in having something specific made, feel free to PM me ...... I can design one for you) (Shameless self-promotion. hehehehe)

Re: Headbands etc
I've had good luck finding blingy hair candy at Claire's and Icing, especially during or just after Prom season.
Regarding the headbands that come with costumes, my seamstress friend recommends sewing combs into them, so that they grip into your hair as you pull the headband back over your head. She is talking about combs like this:
Darice® Hair Comb Clear Plastic 6 pc Product Detail -- CreateForLess
I imagine that the little combs that are used to wear hair extensions might also work quite well, if you sew multiple combs into the headband.
Snap Clips - Hair Extension Clips
I haven't tried this myself because I don't always care for the headbands that come with my costumes, but she swears by this technique!Last edited by Anjela; 12-14-2009 at 12:01 PM.

Re: Headbands etc
Try attaching wig/toupee clips to the headband. They are rock solid.

Amuse for hair sparklies.
Dhyanis has fabulous flower clips (Dhyanis, bellydancer, costumes and bellydancing classes) - not listed on her website, but she attends a lot of the big bellydance events (Wiggles, Desert Dance Festival, other competitions...)

Have any of you headband fans tried these Bellydancewear
Bellydancewear::Headbands
I'm actually not really sure those are headbands like we usually think of headbands. The usual headbands go back in your hair a ways, and these sit right on top of your forehead at your hairline. But I don't know what else to call them. Anuya wears these kinds of things all the time and it looks great, so I'm looking around at such.

Re: Headbands etc
A troupe-mate of mine always wears flower barrettes, which I think is flattering. I stole her idea and I have worn fake flowers in my hair recently.

Re: Headbands etc
My area is flooded with Oriental import stores that sell supercheap sparkly jewelry and handbags.
I can usually find sparkly barettes, tiaras, flower clips, headbands (including rhinestone ones), and combs there.
They also often have a great assortment of fake hair AND scarves. Those fringed triangle scarves with the little square sequins knotted in them that sell for $30-40 at the BD vendor tables are often $15 at my local import store!

Re: Headbands etc
I have a similar one I got from Bellydancestore a while back. It is the WORST quality materials and workmanship I've ever seen. The big stones, for instance, are plastic -- and cloudy looking -- and crooked! It's been sitting in my sewing basket for years waiting for me to feel like reworking it completely.

I love the look of them, though!
