Thread: Dritz molded foam cups?

Hi All,

Been thinking about making some costumes out of fabric I bought awhile ago. I bought a batch of bras off of ebay, and while they fit, the bra cups are a bit on the softer side. I usually just use interfacing (pellon 70) for stiffening bras and it works fine, but I was wondering about this:

Dritz molded foam cups

Has anyone used these or something similar for reinforcing bra cups?
Honestly, I may not even need it because I will be using fancy fabric instead of plain fabric + sequin/applique/shiny stuff decoration. However, the idea of a stiffer bra just makes it feel a bit more "pro".

Ideas? Suggestions?

I've considered this myself, but haven't actually tried it. I worry not only about sweat degrading the foam, but about how the designs could be attached without compromising the stability of the cups. You certainly wouldn't want to sew through the cups like you could with a woven fabric base (too many holes would destabilize the foam), but how would you get substantial embellishments to lay nicely on a surface fabric if it isn't anchored through the whole piece? Maybe what you need to do is buy a woven bra a size bigger, embellish it, and put the foam cups into it as part of the lining?
