Help!!! I Need Suggestions - alter bras to fit/cover more
Hi Ladies,
As the title suggests, I need suggestions for making a too small bra fit better / cover more.
I have 2 costumes (same 2 with hip issues), that I think the bra is too small, side boob action going on :( & of course I love the costumes, though with both bra & hip belt issues they may be back on the swap shortly.
what would your suggestions be to cover the "side boob" issue & still have the bra look decent & not like I'm trying to "mask" a problem but look as if the bra was intended to be designed that way.
thanks ladies.
Update
I have no accessories, and these are bedlahs, so no skirts.Last edited by SaNoorah; 12-29-2009 at 11:28 PM.

Is it possible to widen the distance between the cups of these particular bras? Side boob will often happen if the cups are too close together, creating this "squished from the side" look.
If your girls have more breathing room in the center, they'll be properly supported from the sides, not looking like trussed pieces of flesh.

Hi - Your signature indicates you're petite, so if you are like me, the skirt may need to be shortened and you may be in a position to take fabric from the top or bottom of your skirt that matches exactly and add it as mentioned in previous posts - Though I suppose you may not want to permanently shorten if you are seeking to someday put it back on the swap.
The bra additions that look least homemade seem to always involve the actual fabric color along with trim.
If you can post a photo, you'll probably get some fantastic suggestions here that are specific to your costume.

You could also let out the shoulder/halter straps just a little more... that would give you more room in the cups. Otherwise I'd say to add space between the cups... sew some thick buckram or something thick and heavy between them and cover it with fabric from accessories.

Re: Help!!! I Need Suggestions - alter bras to fit/cover more
Here is a way to disguise side leakage without sewing or re-doing the bra whatsoever-the only drawback is that it needs the same or similar fabric as your skirt or pants or whatever you are wearing it with and works best with a halter style bra. It ends up being an extra halter "strap".
So lets say you had a black skirt you wanted to wear it with. For each side, cut a triangle of the same or similar fabric about 6 inches wide tapering to 2 inches wide and about 14 inches long. (think Eiffel Tower shaped). Fold the edges under a bit and safety pin or sew the edges down. Then, with the bra on, tuck the bigger part of the triangle into the side of the bra to see where you need to pin it to the bra. Do this on both sides. So after you have pinned it to the inside of the bra, you pull the thinner ends up behind your neck and tie them like a halter. Does that make sense? :)

Jamielynn, what a great tip and good description! I'm sewing-challenged, but can picture this fix and think I could pull it off. With a few hours wrestling to get it right, of course.
