Two-step mascaras
I've been hearing lately that other mascaras are just not it any more for stage make-up as compared to the two-step ones where you apply the white primer followed by color.
I've tried two of these so far and they both flaked off all over my face. I tried L'Oreal Double Extend in the waterproof variety and then I tried a Revlon one. The Revlon was flaking within an hour after application. The waterproof L'Oreal took longer to start dropping bits off, but after a day it was an ugly mess.
Has anyone had good luck with one of these two-step products?
How about one-step ones that are just as good or better?
Thanks!
Rosette

Re: Two-step mascaras
The ONLY one I like is the L'Oreal Double Extend. It's different - it's a 'tube mascara' like Blinc, meaning it creates little tubes over your lashes. It does NOT come off unless you wet your lashes with warm water AND gently pull the little tube things off.
It's brilliant. I put the white stuff on the tops of my lashes, then underneath. You don't want to apply a second coat of this stuff, so build your lashes as long as you'll want them the first time, before it dries. Let the white stuff dry, then add the black. It looks like false eyelashes.
Once, during a craaaazy weekend, I wore the SAME coat of mascara for three days and slept in it two nights. My lashes looked a little raggedy on the third day but NO flaking or raccooning, and it was still on there!

Lauren, I'm betting this was not the "waterproof" variety of L'Oreal Double Extend, which is the L'Oreal one I tried. Do you think that's right?

Not a big fan of the 2-step, white stuff first, color 2nd mascaras.
Find the formula that you like (what is your goal? thickening? lengthening?) and then the rest is technique. :0)

Re: Two-step mascaras
I'm about to start trying something: castor oil for lash lushness. Supposedly it conditions what's there, keeps them from breaking off, and encourages new growth. Women are reporting that after they've used castor oil for about a month, their lashes are so much more lush that regular mascara makes you look like you're wearing false lashes. Here is a link to read up on it but it's a site you have to be registered on to read the reviews:

Try Fiberwig Mascara instead.

I haven't used the two step, but I'll stay away from the one's you've mentioned!
I've had no problems with one step maxxfactor mascara. It doesn't rub off easily and it lasts all day unless I'm crying profusely or something!

Ha! I'm amused to see e-bay listings for Fiberwig that come up like this:
Fiberwig Mascara
NO PANDA EYE
I guess what we call a raccoon eye in the US is a panda eye in Japan...l;,

I'm not a fan of the two step mascaras either - they always flake and look clumpy on me. I stick with Maybelline's the Colossal, I even like it better than Diorshow.

It is a flexible 2 step in one that does not sweat or rain off but can be rinsed off with warm water. You can used it to buils lashes to your brows :-)

Re: Two-step mascaras
No, I didn't know there was a waterproof version of the Double Extend. Geez, how would you get THAT off? Since water is the only way to remove it....
I love Fiberwig almost as much as Double Extend, it doesn't quite lengthen as well (at least without depositing the fibers at funny angles). It's not a two-step, though, there's no white stuff. It's just a mascara with fibers in it, it's billed as 'false eyelashes you paint on.' Stays on like magic, too, unless you use warm water.
I'm getting ready to try Blinc. Also not a two-step but a tube mascara.

Re: Two-step mascaras
I have Maybelline XXXL Curl Power and find it to be quite good. It is one of the two-steps. It certainly gives me very plump, made-up-looking lashes with very little need to try and build the mascara up, and it seems to come off fine with wipes.
I do have to say though that mascara is generally an afterthought for me. I have black lashes which are very straight, and I don't really find I need or want the look mascara gives for normal wear. For performances, I am generally wearing so very much eyeliner that I can often get away without mascara, though it certainly finishes the look.

Re: Two-step mascaras
I've used Urban Decay's Lashes and Galoshes. Good news: It stays on, which is remarkable given that I sweat lots and require super-waterproof products. Bad news: at least for my fairly long lashes (plus possibly operator error?), it does not do all that much - it gets me a bit more, but compared to just mascara, it is not a dramatic effect.
I usually just use several coats of waterproof mascara (Urban Decay and Mac work well for me), or if I really want more umph, false lashes.

Re: Two-step mascaras
I have tried a couple of the two step ones and I haven't liked either. I like the look when they are white but when I put on the color, they get clumpy and if not careful, you end up with white bits at the end. The last one I bought was Maybelline XXL Colossial or something along those lines.
I have thin lashes so it is hard to find something that both makes them look fuller and longer with out them getting clumpy. I can't wear fakes because of the latex so I just keep on trying.
Maybe the next will be the tubes..... Lauren, do they make them look full as well as long?

Re: Two-step mascaras
Another Fiberwig fan. Actually, I often use two different mascaras. One for length, the other for fullness.

Don't hold your breath or toss your falsies just yet. I tried this for at least a month and got nada. However, castor oil does make a good body oil, and applied to the face it does help coax out clogged pore gunk and blackheads (but even for these purposes it is not a miracle by any means).

Re: Two-step mascaras
For drama, nothing beats false lashes, they are a must for performing for me. I would not buy a drugstore 2 step mascara, as the reviews I have heard on them aren't good. However, I use a standalone eyelash booster by shiseido before my mascara in the evening when I don't have the inclination for falsies. Currently the best mascara I have found is diorshow. I'm using the estee Lauder vibrating one at the moment, but the motor broke :( so no wiggly wand for me!
