Thread: Kate Moss in Assuit beach cover up

It always cracks me up when I see fashion magazines or clothing lines featuring assuit (although it's rare).

Here's Kate Moss wearing an assuit shirt as a beach cover up! Now my mind is racing - is it modern assuit? Antique assuit? If antique, how can she bear to wear that on the beach? DOESN'T SHE KNOW?

I'm cringing at the bottom hem...it appears unceremoniously cut off.

This is so dumb. How much protection could this coverup give you from the sun? To risk assuit for a picture like this? Oy.. Plus, it was just cut off at the bottom, it looks so sad.

It probably is antique, she likes her vintage does old Kate. And she's not precious about it.so she might have cut it - or she could have found it in a rag bag somewhere already cut off like that.

She did an orientalist style photo shoot for W magazine (I think it was W) the pics were semi-nude sexy shots with lots of tribal jewelry shot in a Hamman in Istanbul.

She must be tuned into middle eastern style faishon/stuff somehow. (not that I am saying she was trying represent bellydancers in that shoot) because it didnt.

I think the assuit piece she is wearing is vintage as well...it is very sheer and the modern pieces would not look like that.

There was some article in a fashion magazine about how this famous American designer had a favorite assuit robe or caftan or somesuch, and that she suspected that her husband's lover stole it. Also, that she was more upset about losing the assuit robe than the affair. ..l;, Did anyone else read that? I think in truth it's because one aspect of her style is very 60s luxe boho-hippie. It reminds me of all those stories about posh British girls in the 60s digging round in the attics and concocting all manner of groovy outfits from the old threads they found there. Man. I guess some of those old garments are still going to be around!

For a while you could pick up good antique assuit here with comparative ease because a bunch got brought back after the wars, and it languished in suitcases as an heirloom people didn't know what to do with. Several dancers I know have more than one tunic they made from antique assuit. But now it is very rare.

That metal has got to be hot on the skin! It's not what I personally would want to wear either but she does like that vintage stuff. And her other choices are usually not what most people would wear either.

I cant think of a fabric other than wool which would feel so disgusting next to the skin when soggy...it's all wrong.

That was in ELLE a couple of months ago (US version). I think it was Diane Von Furstenberg. But she didn't seem to know it was assuit. Bad fashion designer! Know your indigenous textiles!
