What New MU Technique Will You Try?
Spill it:
What new makeup technique will you try in '10?
What would you like to try and not sure of how to pull off?
Got a new "look" you'd like to explore?

Re: What New MU Technique Will You Try?
This isn't really makeup, but I think I'm going to start crimping my hair. In my test run it looked really fun (just took a little long to get it all done).

Re: What New MU Technique Will You Try?
I wanna try some colorful eyeshadows on my light blue eyes! I always like to play it safe with smoky neutrals that enhance my eye color, like copper, bronze, brown, charcoal, plum and black. But once in awhile I get a wild hair across my butt to play with aquas, hot pinks, violets and other colorful hues....let's see if I can make 'em work!

I often recommend people with blue eyes to try purples and greens. They turn out surprisingly well!

I'd like to find some eye shadows that won't enhance my wrinkles - I have blue eyes and purples make me look old.

Re: What New MU Technique Will You Try?
I just bought a used copy of your makeup DVD and I'm hoping to find some new things to try. I just bought some swarovski flat back crystals to try instead of my duller nail crystals. I have a gig on January 16 so I'd like to play with some new makeup ideas before then.

Re: What New MU Technique Will You Try?
My goal is to try some advanced Arabic makeup 'how to's from YouTube. I'm aiming for my performance makeup to be several notches above my going to a club makeup, and as I already contour, highlight, use wild false lashes, experiment with color, texture and formulation, I'm looking to trial some looks with serious WOW factor! Azhia, are you considering releasing an advanced makeup DVD? I already have your current one.

Re: What New MU Technique Will You Try?
I would like to learn how to use bronzer, and how to chose it.
I bought some for light skin, but I haven't tried it. I don't think it's the right color.
And I might try the Monostat anti-chafing gel, I bought it, but I don't know how to use it.
I'm also afraid it might break me out.
My sister got me N.Y.C. smooth mineral loose eye powder kit, with water proof sealer for lining.
You mix the sealer with the powder. I haven't tried it yet.
Do you think the sealer will mix with other powder eyeshadows?
I just read in a magazine, to keep your make up from sweating off, to use anti-perspirant lightly on your face, before foundation.
Now that....I WON'T TRY!!!!Last edited by gothique; 01-01-2010 at 10:49 AM.

Re: What New MU Technique Will You Try?
Thanks to you darling, in 2009 I finally mastered putting on false eyelashes (the opended eye trick, yes!
)
I'm not afraid of them anymore. Now I don't only wear them for gigs but also for special occasions. Woohoo!
For 2010, I would like to achive the best way to cover my undereye circles. I used conceler and then powder over, but conceler only is not enough... and power over it makes it look dry and obviously shows the small wrinkles more.,f::
So please, what is the secret dear Azhia?

Possibly technique, but I'm on my continuing quest for mascara that doesn't smudge easily, keeps my lashes fairly soft, and makes them look lush.
I think I found the mascara (a Chanel sample I got somewhere), but I'm almost 100% sure I can't justify the cost.

Re: What New MU Technique Will You Try?
In 2009 and earlier, I tried several times to apply false lashes and was unsuccessful. ..cr.: I have very, very curly eyelashes, which makes it a pain in the booty to get these things on....one day I googled "apply false lashes to curly lashes" or something like that, and I found a video one you tube! The person in the video used an eyelash applier (I don't know the proper name), they looked like plastic clamps or tongs. I was in sally's beauty supply the other day and saw this product...I threw it in my basket!!..g.: So this year...I will try false lashes again!

Re: What New MU Technique Will You Try?
Yes, it is difficult to apply false lashes to very curly lashes b/c the false lashes are not as curly as some naturally curly lashes.
You can also try clumps. They require a bit more meticulousness, but they will look more natural and are easier to accommodate very curly lashes.

Re: What New MU Technique Will You Try?
You just want to make sure it's the same undertone as your skin tone (yellow or pink).
The only way to know for sure is to try it (during a time when you don't have anything important going on!). Use it as you would a normal primer (pea-sized amount spread evenly over the entire face and jawline).
Makeup is just powders, creams, and liquids. The sealer should mix with other loose shadows.
Me neither. There are perfectly good fixatives (Ben Nye, Kryolan, Green Marble Sealer) for the job that you put on top of makeup. This is also what primer is for.

Re: What New MU Technique Will You Try?

What brand of concealer are you using? You need something highly pigmented and emollient. MAC has excellent concealers. You can also try Cover FX (PharmaPrix has this brand, it's excellent).
Unless it's eye shadow, do not apply powder around any areas where you are concerned about wrinkles. I haven't used powder in years.

Re: What New MU Technique Will You Try?
Re undereye concealers, I use macs peach color corrector which counteracts the purple in the shadows. Can't remember where I got the tip, but it works for me. Sometimes I layer a regular concealer over the top too, never powder though.

Re: What New MU Technique Will You Try?
Hum! Makes sense.
Because my concealer is a sort of creme-powder stick from L'Oréal. Maybe not enough emollient. So adding powder over the creme-powder concealer is twice the powder .w.: so no wonder it makes me look like Norma Desmond in Sunset Boulevard.
Oh sure! Like you have so many wrinkles to be concerned about!!! Loll! ..l;,

Re: What New MU Technique Will You Try?
I hope to find a darker, more intense eyeshadow look that doesn't end up looking like someone slugged me in the eye. LOL I LOVE the really dark eyeshadows some people pull off, but so far, I havent found any combos that work right for my eyes!

Re: What New MU Technique Will You Try?
Azhia, I have tried doing some of the funky shadow applications from websites like Lime Crime (did a couple of those in teal shades, one in purples, and once in reds/burgundies for a costume party), also tried for a heavy smokey eye and that didnt work either. I have no fear at all of heavy eyeliner, but when I go heavy or dark on the shadow it never quite looks "right" on me (I have done other peoples make up and it looks great though). Would love some suggestions! lol

Thought your picture looked familiar, Basina, I mean now Nazirah!
OK, just pretend you're doing someone else's makeup when you're doing your own. Seeing through your own eyes (at your own eyes) as opposed to seeing someone else's eyes may have something to do with it, too.
Sometimes I think my own makeup looks like crap and others will think the contrary. You might be just too hard on yourself and your makeup application is actually totally fine.

Why, I'm on the east coast, and that's something I want to work on! ..g.:
Add me to the group of false eyelashes determined novices... I wore some successfully for many hours for the first time earlier this month and am feeling braver about it. I'm allergic to latex, so I've been unable to use them--or so I thought, until I found out that the clear adhesive does not contain latex. it's a whole new world now!

Re: What New MU Technique Will You Try?
I didn't need solvent to get the eyelashes off at the end of the night, but it took a couple of face washings to get most of the glue residue off. (I use Oil of Olay foaming face cleanser for sensitive skin, it's powerful yet gentle) I also found that what didn't come off that night, crumbled away the next morning. I forget what brand it was, I got it at a Walgreen's so it wasn't anything too expensive or obscure. Arden, maybe? At any rate a very little of it seemed to go a long way in keeping the lashes on, so there wasn't that much on my eyelid to begin with.
I'm in Boston ..g.:

Ooooh...this needs some thought. I think I'll go with SatinWorship's camp and learn how to do crazy candy jewel tone eyeshadow! :)
OR maybe learn how add a few, carefully placed, stick-on AB crystals to my neck and face for an ultra-glam performance look? Ooooh la la!
