    Clip-on ponytail question

My hair is long - hip length - and has very long layers. I'd really like to wear it in a ponytail to dance (especially in the summer when it gets so hot here) but don't because my hair isn't as thick as it used to be so I feel like it looks kinda thin & wimpy.

In a ponytail the 'tail' part from the band to the longest point of my hair is about 22-23". I found a Revlon clip-on ponytail (called a pony switch?) online that's 27" & I saw another one (forget the name brand) that's 28". Would that be too long? Everything else I've seen up til now is shorter than my hair in a ponytail. If I got something shorter would it blend or would it look like I'm wearing a hair pet? Should I go with a longer one & trim it to my natural hair length or just leave it long?

    Re: Clip-on ponytail question

We laugh that my real hair is now the length of my hair pieces. (below my bra straps.) I have one pony which is shorter. Two of these are claw type ponytails and I have never worried about them because of how I anchor them onto my head. I do a French twist with TONS of hair pins. Then clamp the hair piece on. People come and play with my hair and have a hard time believing that it isn't real. The main issue is that, with the exception of the front hair which I pull back to blend, my hair is not seen or directly mixed with the ponytail.

Believe it or not, that is a fake hair ponytail!
    Hope that helps!

I know a dancer here who wears one that comes down to her hips and it looks great. So no, a 27" wouldn't look fake at all as long as it matches your own hair color.

Yeah the key is getting a pony tail that's as close as possible to the color of your hair. And obvious color difference screams "hairpiece!".

are you blending your own hair with the pony tail or hiding it under the pony tail? revlon pony switch is a good length for stage but a pita, imo, for dance cause you have to cover the attachment point with the switch hair or your hair. and blending synthetics and human to look assimilated is no small feat if you will be moving around a lot

if you want something very thick and long for stage, i recommend getting a 3/4 piece and pining it over your own hair (hiding and protecting it). wear the 3/4 piece where you would place the pony tail, in a banana clip shape.

Not necessarily for stage, more like GP gigs. But I don't know that it could be blended to look real and I also don't know if a pony clip would cover what I've already got. No way I can twist it up and clip into that - I've got too much real hair to hide, basically. Just not sure, I've never worn a ponytail clip. This past summer I did make a couple of those weft hair sewn to wig clip things someone posted about. Easy enough to make and it blended well enough my husband didn't notice (and he does notice things like that) but IMO, a PITA to put in and take out all those little wig clips.

i didn't mean stage litterally. imo any professional dance gig is "stage". sorry if that was unclear. stage vs. pedestrian

if you have a lot of hair and want a jaw clip style pony. i suggest removing the jaw clip from the pony. it will leave a pocket of stretchy material with the wefts sewn on the outside.

make a ponytail of your real hair and braid it very tightly, then create an oblong bun and pin it to your head for life!

cover your braided bun with the pony-pocket and pin on excessively with the large metal roller pins using the X method for safety and security.

nobody likes ponytail in their hummus ;)

using the clip-ectomy method creates a fuller looking pony fall too cause the base is stretched to the max with your own hair.

    hope this method helps.

I have done the version which Sabrina suggests as well. I added large hair combs to the sides to help anchor. BUT, I also leave some of my real hair out on the sides so it blends better.

I've used the draw string (not the claw clip) type pony tail with pretty good success when I blend my own hair--especially if they're close to the same length.

I've got one posted that never really been worn here:

    Thanks!

I've seen a couple of long-haired lovelies add a fake for oomph by pulling just a bit of the sides/front of their natural hair back into a little bun and adding the clip-on to that, for height, waves and volume.

hmm..that's something I hadn't thought of. wouldn't be a ponytail but could give a good look.
