philly mummers, kinda inspired by the spectacle :p

so, my honey and i spend new year's with his family, and in between football games they had the mummer's parade on the tube.....WOW!

so brian explained that they've had the parade in philly for 110 years, and traditionally comprised of a bunch of teamsters, construction workers, etc....pretty much drinking from dawn til whenever...sort of a testosterone carnivale on steroids ..l;,

having seen it, and finding some you tubes, i'm impressed with what a group of beer feuled, straight males came up with! some of the colors and ideas kind of inspire me towards some pretty flashy, flamboyant cossie ideas..... behold:

the first vid got me thinkin about a fantasy, russian type vibe and the 2nd got me thinkin' blingy butterfly :p.......i may have to start sketchin....weird where we get our inspirations isn't it? and all these spangles, feathers and sequins are done by GUYS!

As an aside, have you ever seen what some of those beefy, testosterone Greek male dancers wear for folk costumes? Those cossies are really colorful too! Kudos to guys who are comfortable enough to wear these costumes (and pink too)!

oh yeah! it takes a real man to wear skirts..........and fuschia feathers..............

some of the smaller groups had some really bold color combos

Lesedi, that is a terrific video and her costume is gorgeous. I think tulip skirts are so feminine too.

Not to mention that I love that first song.

wow...I'm totally impressed. It looks like it would be a fun parade to attend...

Lesedi, thanks for the video...I loved the beginning..and the costume made it kitschy, but by the end, my "girls" were hurting.
