Double veil - one color or two?
When you are performing double veil, do you prefer to use two veils of the same color or a contrast? I am looking at tissue lame from debbies craftroom and wondering whether to order gold, silver, or one of each...

Re: Double veil - one color or two?
Personally, when dancing with two veils, I prefer one color.
When dancing with four veils, I prefer two colors; or one set solid, the other set with a print.
(Like Ava Fleming does in her video)
It's all a matter of preference.
I like the surprise value of two same color veils.
The audience can't tell you have two, then WOW! What a surprise when you separate them!Last edited by gothique; 01-08-2010 at 05:32 AM. Reason: wiht = with

Yeah, with one color it's always fun to hear the gasp of the audience when you separate and they realize that it's two veils, but after that it really becomes more of what the interpretation of the music leads you to...

Re: Double veil - one color or two?
I usually use one color or pattern b/c most of my sets are that way, but when I am watching I prefer to see 2 colors b/c it is easier for me (as audience) to see all of the intricacies. Sometimes as an audience member the single color sets start to blend and the tricks lose some of their impact.

Get 2 of 1 color, 1 of another color. Then you have options to do what Mahsati said or do what the others said. I'm glad Debbie's getting the business. I've been trying to get her out of her day job for a long time now.

Re: Double veil - one color or two?
That's what I was going to say! you can't have too many veils, after all...
I like using 2, but it just depends on the effect you are going for. I get just as many gasps separating different colored ones- I think folks assume it's just a two tone fabric at first. I need more of Saqra's liquid lamé veils- two colors limits my wardrobe selection

Re: Double veil - one color or two?
Back when I used to do double veil (maybe I should start working with it again) I always used two colors for the contrast it provided. Since many of my costumes at the time had been of more than one color, I didn't have to choose to use one colored veil over the other.

Re: Double veil - one color or two?
I prefer using two colors because I like doing moves where I reverse a shape, so you see it first in one color, and then the other. But I do like the suggestion of getting two in one color and one in the other -- I'm all for versatility!

2 of 1 and 1 of another also works great for triple veil. The audience doesn't know what's going to happen at all. .w.:Debbie made me 3/4 veils to my size & specs (Kamaal's would have made me fall off the stage!) and they work perfectly!

I'm sure I read about her site in one of your posts, actually! I think I *may* get two of both colors as they are really reasonable at $20 per veil, and that way I'd have pretty much all my costumes covered. Hmm. I LOVE the rich red and blue colorways too, but they would only work with one costume, so I can't justify for now :(

Re: Double veil - one color or two?
I like both--depends on the piece and the effect I'm want to achieve. Sometimes the same color/surprise separation is cool, sometimes I love the "two sided veil that turns into two separate veils" or "hidden veil that appears" thing.

I like matching silk sets. They usually either have color gradations on them or designs that show movements nicely when using "as one"... but still have the "surprise!" impact when you separate.
