Thread: Nude costumes for dark skin?

I was just wondering...do they exist? I've never seen them. If anyone has any pics/links of pics could you post them? I wonder if they make that mesh fabric in colors for darker skin tones.....c:: if so, that would be cool.

"Nude" can of course look awesome on dark skin, but it just looks like a colour, not *nude*.

For anyone interested in making a flesh-toned costume or replacing mesh cutouts to match different skin tones:

You can buy powernet in different flesh colors at Fabric Depot Co. (not to be confused with another online fabric store called Fabric Depot)

Their catalog is sortof hard to navigate, and they have no colors shown online (you have to order swatches). But on page 14 of the catalog they have heavyweight powernet, they have "nude (light)", "beige", and "toffee". In medium weight powernet they have "dark nude" and "suntan".

On page 15 they have lightweight powernet in so many "flesh" shades that they could make nekkid costumes for everyone on the planet -- I actually have their color swatches for the light weight powernet and there are many choices. You could actually choose nuanced shades to match skin -- are you a warm med. brown or cool? Pink-ivory or yellow-ivory?

This is also a great place to buy nylon lycra or stretch velvet fabric in many, many colors. They have also been very nice in my experiences. Its a small company. You have to call them to order swatches or fabric.

you have to make it or dye a costume your self. I made a lace nude costume a while ago

Toria, that's gorgeous. I don't normally like lace but that is NICE lace.

If you can't find any nude costumes for your skin tone, You could try a belly cover/bodystocking in your skin tone. I just got a See Fit bodystocking/belly cover, and it is awesome! She sent me swatches of the other colors she has and she has some for darker skin tones.

From what I've experienced - dancers at either end of the light/dark spectrum have a more challenging time finding mesh costumes that work.
I've had to replace mesh with something lighter before on a costume I just HAD to have...and have simply passed up on plenty of costumes that were not anywhere near my skin color (and also not flattering as a "color" on me).
Hmm...I've bought from spandexworld before but their site seems to be down.
Stretch House, Inc. has a lot of lycra, mesh and glissenate available in various shades of champagne, tan, beige, browns etc. You can use this to replace mesh in costumes. :)

I am a little tardy to this thread, but I understand where you are coming from. It is has been very difficult in the past to find nude material for darker skin tones. The NDC and I have found luck with fabric shops in New York that cater to ice skating, theater houses, and dance teams. You can find some costuming on THE NDC HOMEPAGE.

There are many online places that cater to the ice skating genre of dance and not only do they have various colors for darker skin, but they also have varied thickness, texture, glitter, stretch in your tone! Feel free to contact me for the NY places and I will be more than happy to post the online sites that have served me well over the years.
