Zum - I haven't gone shopping for makeup yet in the UK, but I'm hoping for better luck here.

Regarding 'orange skin', however - why are so many girls here in the UK orange?

Because they want "tans" I suppose. They weren't orange in the early 90s, that I can tell you.

Ironically quite a lot of British people are in effect olive and tan as dark as can be if they get some sun. I was quite surprised, and I don't know why because *many* English people I had known in my lifetime before I went there were dark and sallow.

I wish I were alabaster...instead I'm that transparent pale that tends towards blotchiness and visible veins. :P Thank the gods for makeup. The funniest part is that I'm half-Lebanese but somehow ended up whiter than my Irish/Welsh/Scottish mom.

I've been noticing that in some photos my face looks a tiny bit darker than my body, so am wondering if my foundation is too dark...but in other photos it looks fine. Hm.

I've discovered that the absolute worst colour on me is a pale gold; wore a bedleh like that for a show once and it was nooooot flattering. So when I was making my Mata Hari costume I used dark copper fabric as a base to provide some contrast with my skin. :) For my white costume (in avatar) I made sure to use dark trim for the same reason.

I joke that under stage lights (or bright sunlight) I look like a lightbulb.

Amity, Raq on : gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous!!
I am part of the palefaces as well + my hair is turning gray and I am letting it go. So I am definitely looking for new colors. Got a dark purple and teal costume tath works well.
AND I would love to see the MAC color LIST as well.

That Mata Hari costume is lovely!!!

I glow like a lightbulb on stage and in front of the camera too. It makes Halloween make up super easy though.
I get the same comments, LeonineLotus... especially around this time of year when everyone else is getting darker. I've had a few nasty burns, an allergic reaction to sunless tanner, and skin cancer in my family, so I definitely play it safe! I like jewel tones for the stage too - red, purple, emerald, teal, possibly deep coral and fuschia. Gold, beige, and most pastels make me looks deathly. Sometimes I can wear orange though!

I can't get over Christina Hendricks' porcelain skin in this photo (it may also be the sheer amount of skin... *cough*):

I need a costume in that green! Only with sparkly bits...

I'm pretty much whiter than white, and can't tan at all.

I can honestly say that I've never been interested in trying to get a tan, real or fake.

I'm super pale as well, and for stage I have to PAINT my features using contouring and blush, and use dark dark eyeshadow and bright lip stick, otherwise my face is just a white blob.

I have trouble with pastel colors. Gold and silver are okay, or even white, as long as there is some kind of contrast on the bra/belt near the skin:

But darker cossies or jewel tones are easier:

As for veins/bruises/color difference on the legs: I totally swear by sally hansen's 'airbrush legs', a tip I got from Aisa Lafour, who got it from Jillina's troupe. Goes on easily (just spray in your hand and rub on) and so far I haven't noticed any transfer on my costume, tested it with a silver one.

They have very light colors for us whiteys. I use 'nude', a few of my friends use 'light', which is slightly darker.

The "nude" is way to dark for me and just makes a bruise look purple with a halo of orange-brown, instead of just purple.
Dermablend has a color that is lighter, but it's not as simple as "spray on."
With the new lights at the bellydancestore site, one day I guess they didn't adjust the camera speed quite enough for me... my whole torso blended into the white seamless. Literally. They had to photo-shop to find it in the pictures. LOL.
But like a few others on here I've got that transparent skin. A friend jokes "you don't have "cream" skin, you've got "skim milk" skin." LOL. It's OK. Vampires love us!

    Re: Rockin' the Alabaster Look

you all crack me up- another translucent, couldn't tan if I tried here- even my eyebrows are invisible! On the upside, that means you can't see my leg hair either. I've outgrown my freckles- some days I'm happy, some days I miss them- I just wish I could get rid of the blue under eye veining! yay for peach concealer!

I have rather strong memories of "friends" telling me their boyfriends (or whomever) couldn't help commenting about how pasty I am- gee, thanks for passing that on! But I still attribute that largely to the under eye thing- my husband keeps asking why I wear makeup- even just concealer under the eye makes people stop asking if I'm feeling okay- I swear it's self defense!

I really like the herbs of grace mineral make up- I mix it with my favorite face cream to get good staying power & it's great under stage lights, but still feels light.

I second the recomendations for checking your colors- I look awful in most jewel tones- I can do saphire and emerald okay, but mostly I need muted tones- not even so much earth tones (tho that is my strong point) I love the teals & peaches too. Strong red, black & purple are my vampire colors, but I can to grey, plum, & muted reds bordering on orange, & I'm one of the few people I know who can actually pull off a bright yellow. It drives me nuts that black red & purple seem to be the go-to color for most groups & troupes- took me ages to convince folks it's not wise to make your dancers look like the undead, whether it's putting me in black or others in yellow (unless that's the look you're going for?)

I love this product, too! I use Light in the summer when i'm tan, but for winter I would need Nude, which is hard to find in the states.

I, too, want to look like Christina Hendricks when I grow up. Not so much the skin, obviously, but God, she is the most luscious creature. I just want to look that womanly and lush.

Jeez, I have a bit of a tan now from spending time in FL every couple of weeks. Now, after seeing all these photos, I'm kind of starting to miss my glow-in-the-dark winter complexion!

    I'm just hoping clients will view my fairness as exotic rather than weird when I move to an area where a Hawaiian Tropic glow is sort of a prerequisite ,r:;

"Womanly and lush" are perfect words for her. And I agree. We should start a "I want to be womanly and lush (but respected for my brain and personality) when I grow up" Facebook page. ..l;,

YAY WHITENESS! In terms of costuming, navy blue. Especially a really, really deep navy velvet makes my skin look amazing... More porcelain than plain ol' vitamin D deficient...

Buuuuuut, I'm prone to tanning (especially living where I do, damn you Australian sun...), so I mix lemon juice (natures bleach) into my morning moisturiser so I don't end up with tannish face and white body. :)

I can't wear foundation because I can't find a shade that's pale enough through drug store brands.
I use Benefit's Moonbeam as a Highlighter, as well as MAC's Vanilla Pigment loose dust. I also use Coralista by Benefit for blush, and tend to use brown or plum colours for eyeliner.

Try Larenim for foundation. Their first level is really pale and if that doesn't work get Porcelain Glo. It is stark white and you can mix the colors together if you need to. Of course, by the dead of winter I am using it by itself for my foundation. Get the minis to try it out. Love their eyeshadows and Dusk til Dawn rocks!
